Assistant Pastry Chef

Duties & Responsibilities:
- Ensure that all food is prepared to the exacting standards as set out by the Pastry Chef.
- Ensure that food waste is kept to a minimum.
- Maintain the highest standard of professionalism, ethics, and attitude towards co-workers & guests.
- Assist the Chefs in the kitchen with daily tasks.
- Complete opening duties
- Inform the Chef of any shortages well before the item runs out.
- Transport empty, dirty pots and pans to the wash station. Wash equipment as required/needed.
- Direct and assist co-workers in order to make clean-up a more efficient process.
- Breakdown work station and complete closing duties:
- Return all food items to the proper storage areas.
- Rotate all returned product.
- Wrap, cover, label and date all items being put away.
- Straighten up and organize all storage areas.
- Clean up and wipe down food prep areas, reach-ins/walk-ins, shelves.
- Return all unused and clean utensils/equipment to the specified locations.
- Turn off all equipment not needed for the next shift.
- Restock items that were depleted during the shift.
- Leave message for next shift regarding unfinished tasks, tasks yet to be started or new priority tasks.
- Clean and maintain all equipment, counter tops, and shelves.
- Ensure consistency in taste and presentation of prepared food items.
- Meet demands to a high standard of quality and in a timely manner.
- Maintains the technical skills within culinary ranking: speed, efficiency and time management, which are at the core of cooking competencies.
- Follow all health and safety procedures and protocols in work area and able to properly respond to any emergency situation.
Job Requirements:
- Flexible and energetic personality with the ability to handle the pressures of a busy kitchen.
- Must work all important functions and during busy times.
- Demonstrate professional conduct with all colleagues with the ability to remain calm in stressful situations.
- Foster an environment of cooperation within the company.
- Must be attentive to details, have a willingness to learn, and be a team player.
- Ability to work under stressful/pressure situations is essential.
- Must possess good organizational/time management skills.
- Must be a self motivator - work with little supervision at times.
- Must possess excellent communication skills. Must be able to speak, read and write English fluently. Fluency in a second language is an asset.
- Must be able to work all shifts including days, evenings, overnight, weekends and holidays.
- Must be able to stand for extended periods of time to continuously perform essential job functions.
- Must be able to lift up to 30lbs on a frequent basis. Ability to lift/carry up to 50lbs on an infrequent basis.
Education & Experience
- Demonstrates the ability to follow directions and meet strict deadlines.
- Must possess strong motivational skills and require minimum supervision to meet deadlines.
- Must be able to work independently and efficiently ensuring the highest standard of quality and consistency.
**Job Types**: Full-time, Permanent
**Salary**: $19.00-$21.00 per hour
