We provide thriving residence communities which engage our diverse student population. **Responsibilities**: **Overview** Reporting to the Residence Area Manager, the Assistant Residence Life Coordinator is responsible for all administrative and managerial functions within the respective building(s) in a manner which is consistent with divisional strategic directions and goals. The incumbent will play a critical role in the provision of high-quality housing - a critical element in the recruitment and retention of students to Western. The Assistant Residence Life Coordinator leads in promoting an atmosphere which supports academic achievement and fosters responsible decision-making, and acts as a liaison between the staff team and Housing Leadership. The incumbent will contribute to the overall "learning outside the classroom" through the support of various programming initiatives. Learning opportunities are fostered through the residence behaviour management (judicial) process which the Assistant Residence Life Coordinator supports in their building within a restorative justice framework. The Assistant Residence Life Coordinator provides leadership to residence staff and students through the following key accountabilities (not inclusive): - Supervise student staff supervision through the facilitation of regular 1-on-1s, staff meetings and performance management strategies - Manage the Residence Staff on-call schedule - Investigate low level student behaviour incidents - Provide conflict management and team dynamic support - Support roommate conflicts and mediations and the adjudication of room change requests - Implement daily managerial and administrative responsibilities **Responsibilities**: A. Community Engagement and Education a. Hold meetings with students and determine appropriate outcomes in a timely manner, in collaboration with the Residence Conduct Coordinator. b. Demonstrate professionalism during scheduled office hours by using the time to complete tasks and initiatives related to the role. B. Team Leadership and Development a. Serve as a mentor and role model for appropriate behavior, ensuring compliance with contractual responsibilities. b. Address team dynamics by following up with Residence Life Staff as needed and documenting issues properly. c. Facilitate regular meetings with Residence Staff to ensure effective communication and collaboration. d. Proactively discuss team performance or dynamics with the Residence Life Coordinator or Residence Area Manager. e. Conduct weekly one-on-one meetings with designated staff members to provide guidance and support. f. Address performance concerns through the established Performance Management process. g. Assist in creating the residence staff on-call schedule. h. Work alongside the Residence Life Management Team (RLMT) to plan team socials and appreciation initiatives. C. Co-Curricular Support a. Contribute to staff hiring and training processes as directed by the Residence Life Management Team. b. Support residence staff in implementing the Residence Curriculum and review programming reports during one-on-one meetings. c. Assist in coordinating building-wide and campus-wide events and programs. D. Community Management a. Approach Residence Contract violations with a community-centered perspective, focusing on understanding impact and resolving harms. b. Accurately document incidents and follow-up meetings in StarRez. c. Address minor student conduct concerns promptly and professionally. d. Maintain a strong understanding of the Residence Contract and provide guidance to students about its expectations. Respond appropriately to violations and emergency situations following established protocols. e. Utilize mediation and conflict resolution skills to address interpersonal or community-related issues. f. Oversee roommate agreements and manage community concerns, such as roommate conflicts, as directed by the Residence Life Coordinator. E. Administrative Functions b.
