PRIMARY FUNCTION: Set up, adjust and maintain automatic cutting presses, wall ironers, washer, drying oven, control concentration of oils, chemicals and P.H. factor in washer water. Operate and maintain low pressure oil, gas or solid fuel fired automatic boilers and auxiliary equipment in an efficient manner within control standards and related equipment. Maintainer has primary responsibility for production and quality on assigned equipment including all checks and repairs. TOOLS & EQUIPMENT: Cupping presses, washer, drying oven, vacuum machine, soluble oil, filtering machine, deionizers, water cooling tower, tramp oil, collecting system and treatment system, low pressure boilers, line guard controller (computer) pumps (sump, electric hand pumps, compressed air, acid pumps) compressors, flow meters, gauges and measuring devices, chemical testing equipment, oils, wall ironers, trimmers, washers, ovens, elevators, conveyers, air/ mechanical single filers, balers, hand and powered trucks, hand tools and gauges, janitorial supplies. MATERIALS: Coils, cups, cans, scrap, lubricants, solvents, washer chemicals (caustics-acids) cleaning materials, filters, gas, oil, or solid fuels, charts and water testing chemicals, janitorial supplies, forklift, etc. SOURCE OF SUPERVISION: Shift Supervisor. DUTIES: 1. Check schedule to determine the need for change-over or if scheduled maintenance is in order. Determine if schedule can be adjusted and time allows for overhaul, repair, or re
- adjustments determined by equipment. Assist with change overs as required. 2. Check machines. Analyze any and all types of mechanical or operational troubles and plan for corrective action. Make necessary corrections and running adjustments to maintain maximum production and quality. 3. Make change-overs by setting up assigned equipment for change in material, product or size. 4. M ake repairs or overhaul as required, short of machining parts. Replace worn or damaged parts. Re-time machine action. 5. Operate equipment to check operation. Clean and lubricate as required. Clear jams, check lubricants, supplies, and add or change or mix materials. 6. E xamine, test and measure product from assigned equipment for quality specifications, using appropriate gauges and instruments, and record data. Check product for visual defects. 7. Mix lubricants as necessary. 8. U nload coils and check coils for proper material. Load coils onto down ender and check uncoiler as necessary. 9. Make preventative maintenance checks and inspection of assigned equipment, report findings and take appropriate action. 10. Analyze spoilage as to cause and where possible, take corrective action, analyze and record comments regarding cause of production delays on production report or log books. 11. Advise internal suppliers of problems and requirements. 12. Notify superintendent of any incidences of recurring equipment malfunctions and corrective action taken as well as any incidences of non-conforming materials and supplies. 13. E nsure the smooth flow of cups and cans through assigned area and to the decorator area. Collect water samples from designated locations, test concentrations, record results and add chemicals when required. Check for concentration of oils, chemicals and P.H. factors. Based on above testing results, add required chemicals according to standard procedure or replace washer water. Maintain piping system and check, repair or replace valves and controls. Use tow motor, or any other mechanical devices, for the handling of drums and performing related duties. Notify PM&R maintainer or supervisor of recurring equipment malfunctions or potentially dangerous equipment or practices noticed and advise corrective action recommended or taken. 14. C omplete assigned process and maintenance shift reports. 15. Facilitate reliefs throughout the front-end area. 16. Keep assigned area clean and hazard free. 17. Ensure that all safety equipment, devices and guards are properly used and in place at all times. Follow safe working procedures and safety rules.
