Reporting to the Health and Safety Manager, the** Health and Safety Advisor** is responsible for planning, organizing and coordination of the health and safety activities for the Ottawa and Halifax shops as well as their construction sites within these areas. The advisor acts as an ambassador by promoting health and safety within and overseeing the development of healthy and safety policies, programs and behaviours. This position requires travel within the Ottawa/ Gatineau area, and occasional flights to Halifax (once a month).

**Role and responsibilities**:

- Collaborate in the development and implementation of various H&S programs, policies, procedures and activties
- Support managers in the implementation and maintenance of various prevention programs;
- Conduct regular inspections of workplaces and work methods to ensure that safety rules are observed, that protective equipment is used properly and that all the necessary safety devices are in place and in good working order;
- Implement and maintain COR certification;
- Work with managers to develop and implement temporary assignments, accommodations and return to work plans for employees on occupational related disability leaves;
- Participate in risk analyses and make recommendations on safe working methods;
- Participate in the development of a H&S training program that meets the needs and responsibilities of employees and managers. Lead and / or coordinate training sessions;
- Ensure that employees receive the necessary safety training, in accordance with regulations and Company standards;
- Coordinate and facilitate the H&S committees of the various establishments and follow up on recommendations
- Coordinate the development and implementation of the general emergency measures plan;
- Participate in the establishment of priorities in terms of actions to be taken to achieve the set objectives, follow the corporate action plan;
- Participate in the establishment of H&S indicators and statistics;
- Coach and advice supervisors and team leaders in H&S matters as well as providing appropriate advice on improving managers' interventions in H&S and prevention;
- Set up and update the WHMIS monitoring system;
**General Skills**:

- 5 to 7 years of experience in a Safety/HSE role;
- Diploma in Occupational Health & Safety or Safety Engineering Technology;
- Bilingual (English and French);
- Construction Safety Officers (CSO), or applicable Post-Secondary education in safety (an asset)
- Quebec’s General health and safety on construction sites accreditation (an asset)
- Ability to travel within the Ottawa/Gatineau region (weekly) and Halifax (once a month).
- Knowledge of and ability with leadership skills including mediation skills
