**JOB DESCRIPTION**:
We are looking for individuals to join our team We are seeking individuals for the following positions:

- Registered Early Childhood Educators (R.ECEs)
- Teaching Assistants

**JOB SUMMARY**:
To plan and implement, in consultation with the School Director, an age appropriate program to enhance the children’s cognitive, physical, social and emotional development in accordance with the Childcare Early Years Act and the program criteria.

To incorporate learning experiences designed to meet the individual needs of the children and provide a physically safe and emotionally supportive environment, while upholding the values contained in the school’s program statement.

To work collaboratively with the teaching assistants, ECE students and/or volunteers in the performance of the required duties needed to meet the program requirements.

**Requirements**:

- E.C.E. Diploma or equivalent, **registered** with the College of Early Childhood Educators
- Valid first aid certificate level C
- Current food handler is an asset
- A mandatory vulnerable sector screening
- Health assessment (Immunization Record, 2- Step TB)
- Ability to direct, instruct and care for children
- Ability to maintain control in frustrating situations and emergencies.
- Ability to accommodate competing demands.
- Ability to work collaboratively with assistant teachers, volunteers and E.C.E. students.
- Ability to communicate effectively with children, parents and co-workers.
- Ability to keep confidential all information related to children and parents.
- Ability to lift, carry children and move moderately heavy items.
- Ability to stand for extended periods of time.
- Ability to work some overtime, as necessary.
- Willingness to work in conditions involving exposure to bodily fluids, infectious diseases, frequent high noise levels, and occasional inclement weather.

**RESPONSIBILITIES**:
To **plan**, in consultation with the School Director and other staff, an age-appropriate program to enhance the children’s cognitive, physical, social and emotional development.
- To provide a daily balance of active/quiet, indoor/outdoor, and individual/group activities.
- To use a variety of teaching techniques including modeling, observing, questioning, demonstrating and reinforcing.
- To develop a program to promote and enhance creativity in all areas.
- To provide a variety of materials to encourage large and small muscle development.
- To provide positive social experiences including sharing, co-operation, respect for others and self-sufficiency.
- To facilitate an understanding of a variety of cultures and value systems.
- To maintain program and routines in accordance with structure established by the School Director.
- To seek internal and external resources to augment activity repertoire.
- To plan and carry out activities which encourage problem solving.
- To plan daily circles that enhance learning.
- To plan daily story time with the children.
- To prepare and plan for program activities.

To **implement **an age-appropriate program that enhances the children’s cognitive, physical, social and emotional development.
- To obtain appropriate supplies for planned activities and prepare materials for use.
- To check that the activity area, toys and equipment are safe and sanitary.
- To provide opportunities for child-directed play experiences.
- To carry out daily circle activities that promote learning experiences and music and rhythm appreciation.
- To observe and assess children’s progress and behaviour to ensure that the program meets identified individual and group needs.
- To supervise individual and group activities in accordance with structure established by the School Director.
- To document and post the activities that take place in the classroom for parents to see.
- To conduct fair, progressive and consistent behaviour management techniques in accordance with the program’s policy.

To provide a physically **safe, healthy and emotionally supportive** environment.
- To supervise the children during snack/lunch time and to ensure that any special dietary requirements are met.
- To instruct and assist children in washing, dressing, toileting, eating, etc., to develop self
- help skills.
- To conduct a daily health check of children; to contact parents of illness, etc.
- To be responsible for group during fire drills.
- To seek special resources for children with special needs through consultation with the School Director.
- To work with referral agencies as needed.
- To monitor the environment for hazards.
- To update self and other staff daily of children’s allergies and other special health issues.
- To ensure that the children are dressed appropriately for outdoor play.

To **evaluate** the program to ensure that it meets the needs of individual children and the needs of the group.
- To assist in the evaluation of the program and to recommend new and/or modified program ideas.
