At Capilano University’s Faculty of Arts and Sciences you will experience a workplace that encourages you to push the boundaries of your capabilities, all while embracing our commitment to equity, diversity, and inclusivity. **What you’ll do** **Position: Instructor - regular part time (6 sections or 75% of full time position)** We are seeking an instructor to join our Computing and Data Science department in the School of Science, Technology, Engineering, and Mathematics (STEM), located within the Faculty of Arts and Sciences. Computing and Data Science at Cap U is a small department with a close-knit faculty of exceptional educators. Our focus is on programming and pedagogy that creates a first-class educational experience for our students, and supporting faculty in their own professional development and research interests. In contrast to traditional Computer Science programs, our courses and programs are designed to support the integration of computation and data science throughout degree programs in Arts and Sciences. - Computer Science 101 (discipline overview) - Introductory programming (Python, C, C++) - Introductory micro-controller / robotics (Arduino) - Introductory Computational and Data Science - Command-line scripting and data wrangling - Applied databases - Social, economic, environmental impact of computing technologies **Experience, competencies & qualifications** - demonstrate excellence in teaching and learning at the undergraduate level with an ability to develop relevant, engaging experiential and applied learning opportunities for students; - have exceptional communication and collaboration skills; - cultivate life-enhancing learning experiences in diverse and inclusive environments; - have passion for collaborative work that inspires innovative, inter-disciplinary curriculum and pedagogic design to improve student experiences and outcomes across all our programs; - develop and teach emerging inter-disciplinary topics that combine computation, statistics, and science; - proactively respond to rapidly evolving technologies and best-practices by sharing and creating relevant knowledge and timely skill development; - be committed to partnering with local communities and external partners for the wider good and the long-term; - continuously reflect on and learn from experience to effectively advance our commitment to co-create a distinct university experience; - actively participate in departmental activities, STEM initiatives, and University service; - commit to an on-going program of professional development; - support the University’s strategic vision, which pledges to “transform the lives of learners, employees and communities with experiences and engagement opportunities to actualize their passion and potential." - one of the following: - Ph.D. in Computing Science or Data Science (preferred); - Ph.D. in a related discipline with demonstrated knowledge of the field of Computing Science, demonstrated teaching effectiveness, and scholarly work or substantive directly-related professional experience; - M.Sc. in Computing Science with extensive and documented successful teaching experience in the area and demonstrated involvement in research and professional practice. - excellent communication skills; - enthusiasm for supporting and engaging directly with students and student initiatives; - a commitment to a collaborative and collegial working culture; - a commitment to diversity, equity, and inclusion throughout the University.
