Vegetation Management Field Assistant

Are you passionate about the environment with a strong interest in protecting and learning about our native grassland ecosystem? The Glenbow Ranch Park Foundation is looking for a summer student to work as a Vegetation Management Field Assistant.
**Contract Term**: May 20, 2025 - August 29, 2025
**Positions Available**:1
**Remuneration range**: $20/hour (based on a 40-hour work week)
**Responsibilities include**:
- Participation in the implementation of the invasive plant control program at Glenbow Ranch.
- Data collection of invasive plants and other species.
- Involvement with various other conservation projects.
- General maintenance activities will be required.
- Assistance with GRPF educational programs & visitor experiences.
- Working in conjunction with the Government of Alberta staff to meet work schedules and goals.
- Collaborating with our amazing volunteers on various projects.
**QUALIFICATIONS**:
- Working towards or having completed a degree or diploma in environmental science, conservation, or a related field.
- Must be under 30 (due to grant requirements)
- Plant identification skills including knowledge of basic terminology and plant parts.
- Physically fit (a level of physical fitness conducive to taking on fieldwork activities that include lifting moderate loads, walking, and strength and flexibility required for biological fieldwork).
- Experience working outdoors (e.g., landscaping) and willing and able to work in all kinds of weather.
- Experience using systems and software such as Windows, word processing, spreadsheets, GPS, and GIS.
- Class 5 operators’ license.
- Ability to work independently and have demonstrated the ability to work as part of an interactive group.
- Strong organizational and time management skills, accuracy, and strong attention to detail.
- Excellent interpersonal skills and ability to work with volunteers, lead programs and interact positively with members of the public.
- Any of the following would be considered definite assets:
- Advanced plant identification skills such as the ability to key out species and the ability to spot identify invasive plants.
- Bird identification skills.
- Pesticide applicator assistant license or full pesticide applicators license.
- If successful in competition must produce:
- A criminal record and vulnerable sector check (obtained from “home” police department), and driver abstract on the first day of work.
- Valid First Aid & CPR certification.
- Please note: A vehicle is required to reach the park from Calgary or Cochrane.
