The Maintenance Worker is part of the Facilities & Operations department for the Students' Union Building (SUB) at the University of Alberta. This position preforms a variety of maintenance tasks to ensure that the Students' Union Building is kept in the best condition possible. This position reports to the SUB Building Manager.

**DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES**
- To perform construction, renovation, maintenance and repair of Students’ Union property (including building, furniture and equipment) as directed. May involve mechanical, electrical, plumbing, welding, painting, woodworking/carpentry.
- To keep a record of all work performed and submit to the SUB Building Manager.
- General caretaking of project areas during construction, repair and renovation phases.
- Service and repair of tools as required.
- Pick up supplies when required.
- Perform other job related duties, within the bounds of the required qualifications, as coordinated by the SUB Building Manager or the Maintenance Chargehand.

**QUALIFICATIONS**
- Completion of a level of education equivalent to Alberta Grade XII.
- Some related technical school training desirable.
- Drivers license following the guidelines set by the insurance company.
- Working knowledge of mechanical, electrical, plumbing, welding, painting, woodworking/carpentry.
- Ability to deal effectively with staff, students & the public.
- Ability to work in an organized, independent manner.
- Minimum of two years related experience.
- Must be in good physical condition. Regular and repetitive physical actions are part of the job. Must be able to lift 50lbs (22kg) without assistance.
- Ability to follow oral and written instructions.

**WORKING CONDITIONS**
- This position will primarily work on the day shift, 7:30am - 3:30pm Monday to Friday.
