Job Summary

The barista is responsible for serving all products with friendly, individualized attention towards each customer. He/she is responsible for educating customers about our premium coffees and teas. The barista fulfills any other duties that the manager assigns. The barista represents The Study Coffeehouse in a professional manner.

Customer Service
- Greet all customers with fast, friendly & personalized service and develops a rapport with customers
- Communicate customer complaints and concerns to the manager
- Accurately process transactions through the POS including gift cards and debit transactions
- Answer the coffeehouse telephone in a friendly manner using a professional greeting
- Sell baked goods and miscellaneous food items to customers

Product Quality
- Maintain a high level of standards for all product preparation & adhere to all recipes/measurements
- Develop an understanding of coffee and tea regions and the various differences in flavor and blends
- Sell and serve baked goods and miscellaneous food items to customers
- Follow health, safety and sanitation guidelines & store policies for all product handling

Teamwork
- Communicate with coworkers & management to solve problems and improve quality & service
- Contribute to a positive work environment
- Assist in the opening and/or closing duties
- Make an effort to improve job skills, knowledge and education
- Take ownership of processes and quality improvements
- Initiate suggestive selling
- Anticipate job responsibilities without being asked

Personal Responsibility & Accountability
- Respects peers and supervisors by being on time for every shift
- Follows all cash management policies and procedures to ensure accountability of funds
- Adheres to appropriate standards of behavior in the workplace

Essential Qualifications
- Handle multiple tasks at once & work successfully as part of a team while under pressure
- Operate and use all equipment necessary for coffeehouse operation
- Work varied shifts, hours & days based on business needs & special events
- Maintain a positive morale and professional attitude
- Must have Smartserve certificate

Environment
- Restock shelves when necessary & routinely clean the counter area, tables, take out trash, etc.
- Report potential safety hazards & all employee accidents to the manager on duty
- Inform the manager on duty of any operational inconsistencies

As a Barista, you may on occasion be required to provide table service; serve alcoholic beverages; assist with inventory counts or other duties as assigned by The Study Manager.
