Position Summary
This position will work with Sandra Stiles, the college’s project lead for the work being done to advance the college’s Sustainability Plan objectives. Work is ongoing for the riparian zone rehabilitation project on campus.
**Duties and responsibilities will include**:
Deliver activities to Indigenous youth in rural/ remote regions of Northern Ontario
Collecting water quality samples from the McIntyre River
Planting and maintaining the existing Low Impact Development sites and rain gardens on campus and assisting with stormwater management facility maintenance
Collecting and planting cuttings for shrub propagation, dividing/cultivating perennial plants for use in rain gardens and the restoration zone on campus
Supporting other ongoing applied research projects collaborative with StudioCity and other stakeholders including the Heat Island assessment project with the City of Thunder Bay

Additional Requirements
Excellent communication skills and a passion for working with kids in STEM
Valid Ontario Drivers license
Must complete a Police Vulnerable Sector Check for working with children
Ability to organize and manage all planned activities, and coordinate duties
Field(s) of Study
Must be a full-time post-secondary student at Confederation College in the 2024-2025 academic year (minimum - attending entire winter 2025 semester). Full-time is defined as having a minimum 60% course load, or 40% if you have a permanent disability.
Must be returning to Confederation College as a full-time post-secondary student in September 2025
Must be a Canadian citizen, permanent resident protected person, or an international student who is legally eligible to work in Canada.
If domestic, must be approved for OSAP, or complete the needs score spreadsheet to demonstrate a financial need

Preference will be given to Forestry Technician students
