Overview:
Reporting to an Assistant Manager or Manager, the Supervisor, Accounting in the Corporate Controller directorate is responsible for financial accounting processes and procedures. The Supervisor oversees a team of staff required to support various functions of controllership which include Accounts Receivable, Accounts Payable, Banking, Financial Operations, Budgeting, Project Accounting and Financial Reporting. The position develops and monitors processes to ensure activities are processed within guidelines, controls are established and adhered to, and procedures are well documented and shared with staff within the functional area. The Supervisor, Accounting provides guidance to direct reports to ensure service standards are met. The position provides support for complex issues that may arise within their team.
**Responsibilities**:
- Oversees critical daily/weekly/monthly operational processes as a result of corporate system integrations including AOL, BI3, CARS, SIS, PAM, Reinsurance.
- Validates the integrity of source information from corporate financial systems that integrate with Lawson including AOL, BI3, CARS, SIS, PAM, Freedom.
- Prepares various reconciliations, third party filings, analysis and financial reports.
- Coordinates the preparation of the annual corporate budgets and long range financial forecasts.
- Responsible for the accurate and timely reporting of project costs including allocation of corporate project expenses.
- Accurately monitors and reports on project and operational budget variances.
- Coordinates the monthly close process and prepares the monthly executive package.
- Oversees the quarterly reporting process and related reports.
- Coordinates the annual close process and prepares all notes and financial statements for both corporate and compulsory presentation.
- Reviews and approves journal entries for the functional area.
- Prepares documents for the General Rate Application (GRA) and responses to interrogatories for the Public Utilities Board (PUB).
- Prepares investment reporting for corporate consumption and the annual report.
- Adheres to Performance Indicators that govern the business unit, and ensures alignment of team to meeting standards as defined by the business.
- Ensures that work completed by staff, is accurate and free from material errors by focusing on quality standards.
Qualifications:
- Completion of a recognized accounting designation (CPA, CA, CGA or CMA).
- Completion of an International Financial Reporting Standards (IFRS) accounting course is an asset.Six years accounting experience, preferably in an insurance environment, including experience in a leadership capacity.
- Experience includes two years of experience in banking or treasury.
- Experience includes two years of experience in full cycle accounting.
- Experience includes six years of related accounting experience in forecasting and/or budgeting (corporate and/or project related).
