Applicants must have an avid interest and ability to work with people of diverse racial, ethnic, and socio-economic backgrounds who are facing challenges related to homelessness, substance use, and/or mental illness in a sensitive and culturally appropriate manner.

The requirements listed below are representative of the knowledge and skills required to perform this role successfully.

The selected applicant will work on a rotating schedule of overnight awake shifts, alongside other housing support workers.

Qualifications, Skills, and Training

  • Experience working with complex social issues including rehousing, homelessness.
  • Personal resilience and a strong commitment to supporting clients, including the ability to remain calm and solution-focused in crisis or stressful situations.
  • Knowledge of strengths-based, trauma-informed, and harm-reduction approaches.
  • Demonstrated knowledge of local social service resources.
  • Ability to maintain a positive work atmosphere through appropriate conflict management, professionalism, and effective communication.
  • Strong interpersonal skills and the ability to work collaboratively as part of a team.
  • Excellent communication, planning, organizing, problem-solving, and decision-making skills.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills in English. Proficiency in French will be considered an asset.

Education:

College or university degree in Social Sciences (including but not limited to Human Service Counsellor, Bachelor of Social Work), or relevant experience in the field.

Training:

  • Certification in Non-Violent Crisis Intervention, Suicide Intervention (ASIST), and Opioid Response is required. If not already completed, the employee agrees to obtain certification at the earliest available opportunity.
  • Proficiency in computer applications including email, Microsoft Office, and internet-based research tools.
  • Must have a valid driver's license and own vehicle, as the role may involve travel to various locations in the Greater Moncton Area.

Tasks:

  • Ensure adherence to Supportive Housing Program Agreements to help maintain a safe and respectful living environment within Rising Tide properties.
  • Assess the physical, behavioral, and emotional state of tenants and intervene appropriately and respectfully.
  • Collaborate closely with community partners, including service agencies, mental health providers, medical professionals, and government agencies, to support tenants in addressing needs and achieving goals.
  • Provide timely and accurate documentation of services and care coordination activities, utilizing internal and external databases while maintaining confidentiality.
  • Monitor safety and security throughout overnight shifts, including regular checks and documentation of any incidents or concerns.
  • Engage in ongoing professional development opportunities such as webinars, training, and workshops.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.
  • Flexibility in working hours may be required.
