Position Overview

The Human Resources Generalist is the first point of contact for all HR related matters and runs the daily functions of the Human Resource (HR) department. This includes but is not limited to: recruitment and onboarding of staff; administering pay, benefits and leave; and enforcing company policies and practices.

Key responsibilities
- Acts as a first point of contact for HR related matters, and responds to employee questions and concerns;
- Performs full-cycle recruitment activities, including developing and managing job descriptions and advertisements, conducting phone screens, coordinating interviews, and assisting hiring managers in facilitation of the in-person interview process;
- Develops, implements, and manages onboarding and offboarding content and delivery, including conducting orientations and exit interviews, drafting new hire packages and documentation, and processing benefit enrolment forms and payroll documents;
- Prepares and coordinates probation reviews and annual employee performance reviews;
- Creates HR-related reports, resources, and communications materials including company policies, procedures, etc;
- Manages compliance in relation to WorkSafe BC standards, leaves, and claims management;
- Contributes to creating and updating internal HR policies as required, ensuring compliance with employment standards and best practices;
- Serves as a source of knowledge for compliance, laws, policies, and procedures to both employees and managers;
- Conducts privacy audits, maintains and implements privacy policies, manages privacy training, and acts as the first point of contact with privacy issues arise;
- Establishes effective employee relationships across all departments and at all levels based on trust, experience, and credibility;
- Provides support for events and meetings such as Truth & Reconciliation, Volunteer Engagement Celebration, and other GVFB engagement events;
- Acts as a standing member of the Health & Safety Committee, provides HR support around employee health, safety, and welfare, and keeps a record of health and safety incident reports, following up on further action, if required.
- Performs other duties as assigned by the HR Director.

Qualifications and experience
- Post-secondary diploma or degree in Human Resources, or a related discipline;
- 3+ years Human Resources related experience, and experience working in a fast-paced environment;
- Working toward a CPHR designation an asset;
- Knowledgeable with HR best practices and resolutions, including Employment Standards Act and Human Rights Legislation;
- Health and Safety experience within the workplace, and familiarity with WorkSafeBC guidelines and resources;
- High level of proficiency with Microsoft Suite (Work, Outlook, Excel, etc), Adobe, L
