Warehouse Worker/driver

**Reports to**:
The Warehouse Manager or designate.

**Position Summary**

The Warehouse Worker is responsible for providing Warehouse support which encompasses equipment and facility duties. This position assists with the accurate and seamless processing of incoming and outgoing shipments. The Warehouse Worker must load and unload shipments regularly, with the capability of repetitive heavy lifting, and use any necessary equipment, e.g. forklift, pallet mover, etc. Other responsibilities include the inspection of incoming and outgoing shipments to verify contents and quality and may be required to assist in the scheduling of appointments. As a representative of Hamilton Food Share, you are expected to interact with our donors, agencies, the public and our suppliers in a positive and respectful manner.

**Job Requirements**:

- D or DZ licence - D licence driver must be willing to complete training for the Z endorsement. LOE (Letter of Experience) from either an Employer or Insurance company stating type of vehicles driven, class and gross vehicle weight which shows 3 years of experience of a similar type, weight & class of vehicle. Must be eligible for approval under HFS’s auto insurance.
- Current and clean abstract from the Ministry of Transportation (must maintain a clean driving record)

**Driver Responsibilities**:

- To maintain a clean driver’s abstract and to adhere to all road and transportation safety regulations.
- Perform daily vehicle circle checks and submit inspection reports to the Manager or designate, noting any items of concern.
- Record and maintain required documentation including driver logbooks.
- Ensure safe loading and off-loading of trucks/vehicles.
- Ensure safe handling and transportation of fresh and frozen foods by utilizing the truck’s correct reefer temperature.
- Check all load-related documentation to ensure that it is complete and accurate.
- Perform periodic inspections before, during, and after delivery to ensure that load is properly fastened down and is secure.
- Comply with applicable legislation including safe operation, carriage of goods, occupational health and safety, transportation of dangerous goods, if applicable, and weights and dimensions.
- Report vehicle defects, accidents, traffic violations, or damage to the vehicles.
- Cleaning and maintenance of the vehicles.
- Ensure that any debris caused by the loading/unloading of truck is cleaned up.
- Provide feedback to supervisor regarding client/vendor problems, mechanical problems, or delivery problems.

**Warehouse Responsibilities**:
Provide support in all aspects of the facility maintenance and food recovery program.
- Instructing and working with volunteers.
- Packing and sorting.
- Product breakdown and documentation.
- Building agency skids and invoicing responsibilities as instructed.
- Manual loading (_while minding the vehicle’s gross vehicle weight rating (GVW))_ and off-loading of product by way of hand bombing to and from various sized agency vehicles such as cars, vans, and pickup trucks.
- Mechanical loading (_while minding the vehicle’s GVW_) and off-loading skids of product from dock level trucks and transports by way of operating a pallet mover.
- Working in an industrial cooler and freezer.
- Cleaning and maintenance of warehouse, equipment and outside property to include, but not limited to: sweeping, painting, garbage removal and snow removal of immediate dock area and walkways.
- Operation and maintenance of electrical overhead doors and hydraulic dock plate dock.
- Complete inspection reports during circle checks of warehouse equipment.
- Licensed operation of manual and electric pallet movers and forklifts.
- Warehouse responsibilities may increase during the absence of other warehouse employees.
- Additional hours may be required during weekdays, weekends and evenings.
- Other duties as assigned.

**Health and Safety**

- Maintain organized work area according to policies, procedures and safety regulations.
- Ensure the use of safe lifting methods of all materials.

**Requirements**:

- High School Diploma, GED or equivalent preferred.
- Must have and maintain forklift certification.
- Certification from recognized Truck Driving School with Defensive Driving Course.
- G and DZ driver's license (Air brake endorsement (Z)).
- Demonstrated ability to operate material handling equipment, including forklift truck.
- Must possess excellent English communication skills, both verbal and written.
- Working experience in Shipping and Receiving role preferred.
- Basic mathematical skills.
- Working knowledge of safe lifting methods.
- Exceptional organizational abilities with task prioritization, multi-tasking, use of timelines and time management techniques.
- Attention to detail in all areas of work.
- Strong work ethic and positive t
