**Position Summary**

Reporting to the Director of The Muse: Lake of the Woods Museum and Douglas Family Art Centre, the Museum Collections Intern will provide support to the Museum Registrar with cataloguing and processing museum artifacts and archival material.

This will include but is not limited to:

- Cataloguing of recently acquired large archival collections by inventorying, organizing and labelling these collections; re-boxing to acid-free storage; storing.
- Maximizing storage space through the addition of shelving, boxing, or hanging systems as appropriate.
- Photographing artifacts in the collection in a professional style manner for use in the collections management database, also for programming, marketing, publications and exhibit purposes.
- Planning the storage spaces to maximize the space, and organizing and rearranging artifacts according to plan. Label shelves with location codes and record the location of all artifacts. Transfer location information to the collections management database. Separate artifacts from exhibit props and store them accordingly.
- Assist with reports and other special projects
- De-accessioning artifacts from the collection in consultation with the Museum Registrar and the Museum Advisory Committee which will include removal of items from the collection and the associated paperwork; transfer of artifacts to the teaching collection, where appropriate; disposal of artifacts in an appropriate manner
- Assisting in the regular workings of the museum which will include: customer service, research, exhibit development, assisting with educational programming, and special events.

**Position Requirements**
- Knowledge of emerging museum trends; proficiency in Mac computer systems and networking; strong oral and written communication skills, proven organizational, time management, project management and marketing skills.
