THE OPPORTUNITY
**Job Summary**
Working under the direction of the Facilities Manager, the Maintenance Worker is responsible for the general maintenance of the interior and exterior of Phoenix Society’s Surrey based facilities. You will complete day-to-day minor maintenance repairs, to a high standard, contributing to the successful operation of our facilities and satisfaction of our staff and residents.
**Essential Duties and Responsibilities**:
**Facilities Maintenance**
- Promotes and maintains a welcoming environment; welcoming residents, guests and staff to our facilities and maintaining a positive demeanor when interacting with others
- Ensures that our facilities are properly maintained to guarantee the satisfaction of our residents, staff, funders, and all stakeholders
- Responds to and completes maintenance tasks, as requested by their Manager
- Completes safety checks and conducts routine maintenance on systems and equipment, including maintaining records of this work
- Assists in the adherence of a preventative maintenance plan
- Performs general maintenance task for the buildings, such as painting, power washing, major clean ups, event setup/take down
- Liaising with other contractors and repair personnel as directed by management
- Making and/or installing new furniture and equipment
THE CANDIDATE
**Qualifications**
- Academic: Successful completion Grade 12 education, plus related vocational training such as a building maintenance course.
- 3+ years working knowledge and professional experience in a wide variety of maintenance and light construction tasks including basic carpentry, plumbing, electrical and finishing work.
- Ability to do work inside and outdoors physical activity, including heavy lifting, climbing ladders and stairs, and standing for extended periods of time
- Satisfactory completion of a criminal records check with vulnerable sector screening
- Satisfactory completion of Tuberculosis Screening form
- Satisfactory completion of Employee Immunization Record form
- First aid certification with CPR is required
- Valid class 5 driver’s license and driver's abstract
**Skills & Knowledge**
- English: fluent and able to effectively communicate professionally, both orally and written
- Computer: proficient in MS Windows, Word, Excel, Outlook and database management
- Superior time management, organizational skills, and the ability to multi-task
- Ability to successfully collaborate with diverse personalities and communicate with all levels of the organization
- High energy level, positive attitude, willingness to learn and grow
- Appreciative of a diverse, multicultural environment
