Sessional Lecturer: Mental Health Literacy in Education

**Position**: Sessional Lecturer (1 Position - CUPE 3902, Unit 2)
VIC145H1S Mental Health Literacy in Education - This course introduces students to fundamental concepts and issues related to wellbeing and mental health through the lens of mental health literacy. Students will investigate varied and global approaches towards achieving wellbeing and situate mental health within individual and social contexts with an emphasis on lived experience. Indigenous, Eastern and spiritual conceptions of wellbeing will be introduced. Mental health literacy in schools and other contexts of learning will be discussed. The course will equip students with knowledge of how to support their own wellbeing, community wellbeing, and the wellbeing of those they serve now and will serve in the future.
**Expected course time**: Fridays, 11 am - 1 pm
**Enrolment cap**: 25
**Dates of appointment**: January 1, 2026 to April 30, 2026
**Course Modality**: In-person, Victoria College campus
**Teaching Assistant**: There is no TA support
The salary will be as per the CUPE agreement (e.g., September 2023 Sessional Lecturer rate is $9,457.90 including vacation pay).

**Requirements**:

- PhD in Education, Curriculum, Psychology, or a closely related field
- Relevant university-level teaching, particularly utilizing collaborative learning techniques, contemplative pedagogy, and person-centered experiential learning, and a record of excellence in undergraduate teaching as demonstrated by previous experience and evaluations.
- In-depth understanding of mental health literacy in both personal and social contexts, with attention to outcomes across the lifespan.
- Relevant knowledge of mental health literacy in K-12, higher education, and other adult learning environments.
- Scholarly expertise in mental health literacy, postsecondary student wellbeing, and non
- clinical/preventive approaches, as demonstrated through research, publications, academic conference presentations, and/or relevant professional experience.
- Experience teaching intercultural, spiritual, and Indigenous approaches to wellness and wellbeing.
- Demonstrated ability to design and develop curriculum in collaboration with multiple stakeholders, including students, faculty, and community partners.
- Excellent oral and written communication skills.
- Demonstrated qualifications in and commitment to inclusion, diversity, equity, and accessibility (IDEA) in education.
