Community Services and Events Coordinator

PURPOSE OF POSITION
The Community Services and Events Coordinator (CSEC) is responsible for developing, scheduling, evaluating and promoting all sport, recreation, healthy active living, leisure programs and special events for all ages and abilities for the Municipality. Will work with all Municipal departments in various capacities to support community services identified in major reports. (ie. Strategic Plan, Master Parks and Rec, Tourism Strategy, etc ) Provide excellent customer service. Responsible for multi-media advertising, public education and marketing of programs and events offered.
KEY FUNCTIONS
- Develop, schedule, facilitate, manage, evaluate and promote the program planning (short and long term) for the Municipality, including identifying the types of programs and special events/festivals the Municipality requires.
- Primary contact for the Recreation Committee, Parks and Recreation Facilities programs.
- Liaison with special interest groups, such as seniors, and youth, and volunteers with respect to researching, managing and advocating for services as required.
- Responsible for all operations of the summer day camp including staffing and supervision.
- Prepares both operational and capital budgets and reviews reports as required.
- Facilitates community development initiatives with user groups, volunteers and organizations as they relate to the Municipality’s objectives and needs.
- Liaisons with departmental staff, community organizations and other agencies in providing specialized programs, workshops and special events; promotes community development through liaison with social service agencies and facilitation of community groups.
- Drafts relevant policies and procedures related to the Parks and Recreation Facilities department and the Community Centre operations.
- Always ensure public safety by following the Occupational Health & Safety Act and the Municipal Health and Safety Policy.
- Availability to work flexible hours as required (days, evenings and weekends). - Perform additional duties on a daily basis as required to meet the needs of the department and organization.
QUALIFICATIONS
Education/Experience
- Post-secondary education in recreation/leisure studies or related fields such as Recreation, Facilities and Parks Management.
- Minimum of three (3) years working experience in a recreational and events management setting, with preference given to municipal experience.
- Knowledge and working experience relating to Occupational Health and Safety Act.
- Valid Class “G” Ontario Driver’s License.
- Demonstrated strong customer service skills and correspondence preparation.
- Proven ability to communicate effectively within the Municipal organizational structure.
- Police check including vulnerable sector required upon verbal offer of employment. - Must be certified in First Aid/CPR and Workplace Hazardous Materials
- Information System (WHMIS).

- Superior ability to communicate effectively and concisely, both orally and in writing
- Ability to establish and maintain effective working relations with co-workers, volunteer, and the public
- Strong organizational, time management, and leadership skills.
- Ability to think and act strategically in a public sector environment, including the ability to conceptualize and implement departmental change strategies
- Excellent project/time management, analytical/critical thinking, problem solving and decision-making skills
- Strong leadership skills, including the ability to direct, motivate, evaluate, and recognize staff; proven ability to share skills and knowledge with others
- Proven conflict management abilities and mediation skills - Proficiency with office computer equipment and software - Competent within the meaning of the Occupational Health & Safety Act
WORKING CONDITIONS
Environment: Works both in an office environment and field work. Hours of work are scheduled but vary significantly. (day, evenings and weekends)
Control Over Work Schedule Occasional disruptions to lifestyle to work non-scheduled hours due to emergency callouts and attend Council meetings.
Pay: $33.75-$37.50 per hour
Expected hours: 35 per week
