**THE OPPORTUNITY**

Reporting to the Vice President of Furniture, the primary function of this role is to provide leadership and oversight to the Furniture Design team.
**WHAT YOU WILL DO**
**Leadership**
- Motivate, engage, and lead the development of the Design team
- Recruit, hire and onboard Design team members
- Conduct performance reviews for direct reports
- Coach staff on strategies for handling work effectively and efficiently
- Distribute assignment of work to team members and manage overall workload priorities
- Identify training requirements for staff, new products, or updates to existing product lines
- Create training programs and schedules that streamline the onboarding experience and enable design members to contribute faster
- Participate in the exploration of how technologies can be used to advance deliverables
- Conduct or coordinate Hedberg and CET training as required
- Participate in training as required, including conferences, webinars and other informative sessions about products/manufacturers
- Ensure turnaround design times are on schedule
- Oversee the time sheet process as it relates to the activities performed by the design team
- Track and approve banked time
- Approve appropriate usage of time off requests, and manage the time-off coverage strategy
**Quality Management & Workflow**
- Work with A&D Liaison on 3rd party design collaborations
- Evaluate latest releases of AutoCAD and CET software and ensure software is up to date
- Continuously establish, implement, and maintain appropriate standards and protocols related to drawings
- Work with Design team to collaborate with sales in providing constructive solutions resulting in efficient and cost-effective results for end user clients
- Design to take the lead on the “specials” process communicating with the manufacturers.
- Lead / participate in “live design” opportunities with external designers / architects /clients
**Design (Approximately 40% of position)**
- Provide furniture layouts with accurate specifications for sales team
- Provide furniture installation packages and review drawings with project coordinators and provide inventory when required for furniture reconfigurations
- Provide drawings/specifications, 3D renderings and other necessary documents for projects and tenders using AutoCAD, CAP and CET
- Provide sample/finish boards for presentations
- Work with inventory lists to ensure that client inventories are being utilized
**Showroom**
- Assist in creating a forward-thinking environment to introduce customers to RGO and our expertise
- Ensure a thought-out working showroom to support the day-to-day tasks of our team in its various roles
- Work with Steelcase and open line vendors to procure product that best illustrates our capabilities and furniture trends
- Oversee the furniture materials library resources
- Coordinate the set-up and reconfiguration of internal staff workspaces
**WHAT YOU WILL BRING**
- Post-secondary education in Interior Design, Interior Design Technologies, or Architectural Technologies
- Minimum 5+ years of Commercial Design / Space Planning experience
- Previous management or leadership experience is preferred
- Experience working in SharePoint and MS Teams is an asset
- Prior track record of achievement in positions with significant accountability
- Strong communicator who can comfortably represent RGO at sales and design meetings
- Excellent problem solver who anticipates issues and develops resolutions
- Decisive leader who can gather information and determine appropriate solutions
- Adept trainer who can impart knowledge to more junior employees while coaching and mentoring
- Initiative, ability to think critically and act logically in evaluating situations and generating required steps to ensure success
