**:
Under the direct supervision of the Locates and Metering Supervisor, is responsible for acquiring, maintaining, and providing accurate information regarding underground plant to ensure the safety of, and to help prevent damage to, persons and equipment during below ground work within the utility service area.

**DUTIES**:

- Provides accurate information to ensure the safety of any person performing any type of below ground work within the utility’s service area.
- Completes utility field locating services as required.
- Receives and processes requests for clearances by/for SYNERGY NORTH personnel.
- Acquires information pertaining to buried materials and equipment from all respective sources, schedules on-site meetings if required, and provides this information to SYNERGY NORTH personnel prior to excavation.
- Produces and maintains digital mapping records of the utility’s facilities including as-built plots.
- Performs preliminary accident investigation(s) involving SYNERGY NORTH.
- Performs other such other related duties as may be assigned.

**QUALIFICATIONS**:
**Mandatory**:

- Minimum Grade 12 Secondary School Graduation Diploma (or equivalent) with a good mathematical background.
- Valid Ontario Driver’s License (Class G or higher) with an excellent driving record. Note: A Driver’s Abstract will be processed by SYNERGY NORTH to verify that the applicant has no more than 6 demerit points.
- Proficient with computers and MS office programs.
- A demonstrated commitment to continuous improvement, customer service and teamwork principles, is necessary.
- Must have excellent interpersonal, organizational and communication (verbal and written) skills.

**Preferred**:

- A Graduate of a post-secondary Technician or Technologist Program.
- Relevant experience as a Locator.
- Demonstrated drafting skills, including AutoCAD experience.
- An understanding of electrical distribution, telecommunications and utility construction practices.
- Excellent map and underground construction drawing reading skills and a working knowledge of computers and related software.
- A working knowledge of utility systems installations, road construction and building practices.
- Successful completion of the Damage Prevention Technician course.
- Post-secondary education and/or experience in a utility environment (e.g., electrical, gas, water, or telecommunications)

**Conditions of Employment**:

- Must have and maintain a valid Ontario G Driver’s License and the use of a vehicle. Must be able and willing to work stand-by (available to perform locate duties after business hours on a rotational basis) and overtime as required.
- Must be able to respond to emergency call-outs within twenty minutes.
- Must be willing to work out-of-town and/or remotely, as required.
- Must be able to prioritize and complete tasks accurately and within specific time constraints with little or no supervision.
- Must successfully complete a Police Information Check and Drug & Alcohol Testing.
