Our responsibilities include working with partners in law enforcement, justice, health, and social services for a fair and accessible justice system that upholds rule of law while supporting the needs of individuals. We are responsible for the custody and supervision of adults and young persons under correctional authority, as well as the facilitation of rehabilitation. In collaboration with municipalities, Metis Settlements and First Nations, we lead disaster preparation, mitigation, response, and recovery to increase individual and community resilience.

**Role Responsibilities**:

This position reports to the Director of Financial Planning in the Financial Services Branch, within the Ministry of Public Safety and Emergency Services. The manager leads and facilitates the delivery of comprehensive financial services, including monitoring, analysis, planning, management, forecasting, budgeting, and internal analysis.

The position is responsible for managing budget officers who assist and advise various divisions (Correctional Services Division, Strategy, Support, and Integrated Initiatives Division, and Ministry Support Services) on financial operations. Providing regular advice to senior officials, including the Director of Financial Planning, Executive Director of Financial Services Division, and Assistant Deputy Ministers, to support financial and strategic planning and management activities.

**The Manager is responsible for the following key deliverables under strict timelines**:

- Financial and Operational Resource Management: Ensure divisional financial and operational resources are efficiently utilized, including budget development and monitoring.
- Financial Planning Participation: Contribute to the Ministry's Financial Plan for Treasury Board submissions, including annual targets, budget estimates, and other related documents.
- Forecasting and Budget Management: Oversee monthly and quarterly forecasting to evaluate financial progress, ensure budget adherence, and identify necessary adjustments. This involves ongoing communication with senior officials and the Executive Team.
- Project Support: Provide financial and operational planning and analytical support for major projects and initiatives.
- Compliance: Ensure adherence to financial planning, budgeting, and reporting guidelines under the Government of Alberta Government Accountability Act.
- Team Leadership: Direct a team of three financial professionals and budget analysts.

**Qualifications**:
**Required**:

- A university degree (4 years) in Finance, Accounting, Economics, Business Administration, or a related field, with a minimum of five (5) years of relevant experience.
- A professional designation (CPA, CA, CMA, or CGA) is required.

**Equivalency**:

- Directly related education or experience considered on the basis of:

- 1 year of education for 1 year of experience; or
- 1 year of experience for 1 year of education

**Assets**:

- Experience in financial planning, preferably in a large public sector organization.
- Extensive understanding and knowledge of: Financial Administration Act, Generally Accepted Accounting Principles (GAAP), Public Sector Accounting Standards (PSAB), GOA financial systems, directives, and policies.
