**The Role: Paralegal - IP & Legal Technology Development**

We are seeking a **proactive and detail-oriented Paralegal** with expertise in intellectual property management and a strong interest in legal technology innovation. This role will combine traditional paralegal duties—such as patent portfolio management and legal filings—with hands-on collaboration in the development of **next-generation legal software tools** to streamline IP and compliance workflows.

**Key ResponsibilitiesIntellectual Property & Legal Support**
- Manage and track Humanitas’ **patent portfolio**, including filings, renewals, and correspondence with IP offices.
- Conduct prior art searches, patentability assessments, and competitive IP landscape analysis.
- Coordinate with external patent agents, legal counsel, and inventors to ensure timely and accurate filings.
- Draft and review agreements, NDAs, and IP-related documentation to support partnerships and R&D projects.

**Legal Software Development Collaboration**
- Work closely with the product and engineering teams to **define requirements for legal workflow automation tools** (e.g., IP tracking dashboards, automated document generation, compliance checklists).
- Provide **domain expertise** on legal processes and documentation standards to guide software features and UI/UX design.
- Participate in **user acceptance testing (UAT)** and contribute to iterative improvements of internal legal tools.

**Compliance & Research**
- Monitor developments in IP law, technology regulations, and emerging legal tech trends relevant to Humanitas’ industry.
- Support internal teams in ensuring compliance with IP-related contractual obligations and government regulations.
- Assist in creating internal training materials and process documentation for IP management and legal software use.
- Bachelor’s degree in Law, Paralegal Studies, or a related field.
- Certification as a Paralegal (an asset).

**Experience**
- 3+ years of experience in IP law, patent management, or corporate legal support.
- Familiarity with **patent filing processes**, WIPO databases, and legal document drafting.
- Experience working in a **startup, tech, or R&D-heavy environment** is an asset.
- Exposure to or interest in **legal software, contract automation tools, or digital workflows** is highly valued.

**Technical & Professional Skills**
- Strong understanding of intellectual property frameworks (patents, trade secrets, copyrights, and trademarks).
- Ability to work with legal document management systems and databases.
- Interest or experience in **software development processes** (working with developers, testing tools).
- Excellent organizational skills, attention to detail, and ability to handle multiple priorities.

**Pay Range**

$55,000 - $90,000 per year (depending on experience)
