**The opportunity**:
The University of Manitoba is looking for an Events & Special Projects Coordinator. This position will be responsible for coordinating activities such as the Elders Council, annual Blueprint conference, and collaborative projects identified by the Blueprint partners. Reporting to and working closely with the MCIEB Manager, the Research and Special Projects Coordinator conducts research to inform the implementation and ongoing coordination of MCIEB activities.
**The qualifications and experience we’re looking for**:
PREFERENCE WILL BE GIVEN TO INDIGENOUS CANDIDATES. APPLICANTS MUST SELF-DECLARE ON THEIR COVER LETTER OR RESUME AS INDIGENOUS (FIRST NATIONS, MÉTIS, AND/OR INUIT).
- Completion of formal training program in a related discipline from a recognized institute required.
- Bachelor's degree in Indigenous studies, History, Human Rights, Education, Communications, Business Administration, or a related discipline preferred.
- Four years of experience in a field related to advancing Indigenous education required.
- Experience in coordinating projects and events and working collaboratively with others is required.
- Experience working with Indigenous Peoples, Indigenous communities, and educational institutions is required.
- Knowledge and understanding of Indigenous cultures, colonization, socio-economic issues, and importance of self-determination is required.
- Previous administrative experience in an academic setting is preferred.
- Knowledge of the university's financial system Aurora (EPIC, Concur, Fast Finance) an asset.
- Experience in writing funding proposals and funder reports is an asset.a
- An acceptable equivalent combination of education and experience may be considered.
- Exceptional organizational and time management skills required.
- Must be able to think critically and take the initiative to solve problems.
- Must have a strong work ethic and able to work independently.
- Excellent written and oral communication skills, with an ability to navigate political, academic, and industry expectations diplomatically required.
- Strong interpersonal understanding of Indigenous ways of relating, communicating, systems of reciprocity, and protocol around requests for time, knowledge sharing, or conducting ceremony is required.
- High level of commitment to the University of Manitoba community and to the mission of Indigenous engagement and achievement.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office suites, Zoom, Google, Sharepoint, Project Management software and other software's required.
- Demonstrated conflict resolution skills required.
- Demonstrated ability to plan, organize, coordinate, and establish work priorities and deadlines required.
- Ability to gather, develop, and present information as well as provide advice required.
- Ability to make sound independent judgments required.
- Ability to process large numbers of documents with speed, accuracy, and attention to detail in order to meet strict deadlines required.
- Ability to lead, create and coordinate new initiatives with key stakeholders required.
- Ability to monitor expenses and project budgets is required.
- Satisfactory work record, including satisfactory attendance and punctuality, is required.
