**About us**
Hospice Halifax is a compassionate and supportive community of staff members, volunteers, and donors dedicated to making dying and living as comfortable and as meaningful as possible at the end of life. Our hospice residence is a 10-bed facility, where individuals and their families receive personalized and dignified end-of-life-care.

**About the Role**
Reporting to the Director of Philanthropy, the **Fund Development Officer**leads Hospice Halifax’s **Annual and Planned Giving** Programs, developing and implementing strategies to secure funding from individual and corporate donors. Their primary focus is building and maintaining donor relationships to increase engagement and contributions.
The Fund Development Officer plays a key role in maximizing fundraising revenue and enhancing donor experience across annual giving, monthly giving, digital fundraising, tribute giving, planned giving, grant writing, personal solicitation, stewardship, and major gift prospecting.
Working closely with fundraising and marketing teams, they coordinate initiatives, develop compelling donor communications, and ensure alignment with the organization’s overall fundraising plan. They also track and report progress, manage budgets, and monitor fundraising efficiency to optimize resources.
The Fund Development Officer stays current on best practices and trends in annual and planned giving to continuously improve fundraising strategies.
**Key Responsibilities**
- Annual Giving_
- Develops and implements annual giving strategies to grow individual, monthly, and mid-level donor support, including managing the $5,000 Adopt-a-Room program.
- Oversees donor acquisition, retention, and stewardship to maximize engagement and revenue, ensuring a seamless donor experience.
- Monitors and analyzes fundraising performance, tracking key metrics (e.g., revenue, donor retention, pipeline development) and optimizing strategies through A/B testing and segmentation.
- Drives special campaigns, including Giving Tuesday and targeted fundraising appeals, while identifying and securing grant opportunities.
- Enhances online fundraising by working with Marketing to improve the website and digital giving platforms.
Planned Giving
- Develops and implements the planned giving program, including legacy gifts and charitable bequests, in collaboration with the Director of Philanthropy.
- Identifies, cultivates, solicits, and stewards planned gift donors while confirming at least five new commitments annually.
- Collaborates with Marketing and Communications to create a fundraising strategy and promotional materials for planned giving.
- Administers planned gifts and works with allied professionals (executors, trustees, lawyers, financial advisors) to ensure donor wishes are honored.
Donor Database
- Manages and optimizes the Raiser’s Edge NXT donor database, ensuring accuracy and integrity, and reporting for effective fundraising analytics.
- Oversees donor acknowledgements, receipting and prospect tracking to maintain engagement and compliance with best practices.
**Qualifications and Competencies**
The successful applicant will be a strategic thinker with experience growing revenue through multi-channel fundraising, including cultivation, solicitation, and stewardship. Strong writing, project management, and organizational skills are essential, along with the ability to analyze data to drive decision-making.
- Bachelor’s degree in nonprofit management, fundraising, marketing, or a related field.
- 3 to 5 years of experience in annual and planned giving or a related fundraising field.
- CFRE designation is an asset.
- Proven success in developing and implementing fundraising programs that meet or exceed goals.
- Strong interpersonal skills to cultivate donor and volunteer relationships.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills to create compelling fundraising content.
- Strong analytical skills and experience using data to inform fundraising strategies.
- Highly organized and detail-oriented, able to manage multiple projects and deadlines.
- Proficiency in fundraising software (Raiser’s Edge NXT) and database management.
- Commitment to Hospice Halifax’s mission, with compassion and comfort discussing death and grief.
