Reporting to the Partnerships Manager, the Development Officer is responsible for the identification, cultivation and solicitation of prospective donors, preparation of partnership proposals, stewardship activities, and departmental administrative support.
The Development Officer is an experienced fundraiser with a proven track record in growing the prospect pipeline toward the successful achievement of new gifts. This position requires expert knowledge of Raiser’s Edge, strong writing skills, organizational skills, flexibility, and the ability to meet tight deadlines in a fast-paced environment.
**RESPONSIBILITIES**
The Development Officer will:
- Conduct research on prospective donors, particularly in the areas of interest, giving history, and alignment with Discovery Centre’s charitable mission
- Personally recruit corporate and individual donor prospects within the giving range of $2,500 to $100,000 to help meet annual revenue targets
- Prepare proposals and presentations for submission to prospective partners
- Prepare partner gift agreements
- Fulfill reporting requirements for Discovery Centre sponsors and donors
- Ensure fulfilment of donor benefits and recognition pieces ae identified in partnership agreements
- Assist with the launch and management of Discovery Centre’s annual fund and end-of-year giving campaign
- Send meeting invitations to prospective donors on behalf of Discovery Centre’s Partnerships Manager and President & CEO
- Record pertinent prospect and donor communication in Raiser’s Edge with scheduling of donor touch points
- Assist with ticket sales and sponsorship for Discovery Centre’s annual fundraiser, the Discovery Awards for Science & Technology
- Other duties and projects as assigned
**QUALIFICATIONS & EXPERIENCE**
- Post-secondary education and minimum three years’ experience in the fundraising sector
- Strong writing skills with exceptional attention to detail
- Expert knowledge of Raiser’s Edge
- Demonstrated ability to work both independently and collaboratively to achieve organizational goals
- Demonstrated professionalism and judgement in dealing with confidential and sensitive matters
- Strong organizational and time management skills with the ability to manage competing deadlines
