**Salary**: A base salary in the range of $75,000-85,000 per year, depending on experience and a benefits plan which includes Extended Health and Dental. (Excluded Position)
SUMMARY:
The Vancouver Art Gallery is seeking a People and Culture Advisor to join our growing team. Reporting directly to the Senior Director of People and Culture, this is a unique opportunity to work closely with leadership to provide an exceptional employee experience.
In this role you will foster a people-first culture and engage with the Gallery’s employees and volunteers in an inclusive and collaborative manner. The People and Culture Advisor provides guidance to staff and leaders in all areas of people and culture including recruitment, onboarding benefits administration, leave management, training, professional development and performance management.
This role contributes to the overall success of the People and Culture team, and ensures that all programs, processes, and team services are responsive to the needs of the organization and its employees and contributes to the Gallery’s strategic direction and workplace culture.
ABOUT THE GALLERY:
The Vancouver Art Gallery, one of the largest and innovative art museums in Canada, is undergoing a multi-phase organizational transformation after celebrating 90 years of operation. With a permanent collection of more than 12,000 works of art, the Gallery is implementing a campaign to build a new purpose-built gallery facility in downtown Vancouver planned to open in 2027. This is a moment of growth, exploration and change, as the Gallery re-articulates its relationship to communities and audiences and envisions the role of an art museum in the 21st century.
PRIMARY RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Ensures exceptional employee experiences through a people-first approach across all aspects of people and culture, such as recruitment, onboarding, training, compensation, benefits administration, sick leave, and return-to-work programs.
- Cultivates positive employee relations in an inclusive and collaborative manner, providing advice and solutions to leaders on performance, retention, and compensation matters.
- Provides advice and guidance to staff and leaders on the interpretation and administration of the Collective Agreement, human resources policies, practices and procedures aiming for consistent employee experience.
- Supports performance management, conducts investigations, and provides recommendations as needed.
- Assists in grievance preparation and union meetings.
- Participates in Collective Agreement bargaining, aiding in proposal coordination, and maintaining session records.
- Research HR best practices and suggest changes to align with organizational needs.
- Participates in job evaluation, including interviews, job description preparation, compensation recommendations, and reclassification dispute resolution.
- Manages employee records confidentially and drafts/upholds HR policies aligning with organizational strategies and the Collective Agreement.
- Supports full-cycle recruitment, from job description creation to offer negotiation.
- Coordinates extended absence management, ensuring compliance with medical leave requirements, exploring accommodations, liaising with LTD carriers, and managing case documentation and correspondence.
QUALIFICATIONS:
- Post-secondary education in Human Resources, Business Administration, or a related field, with progress towards or completion of CHRP designation.
- Minimum 5 years of relevant experience in generalist human resources, including 1-2 years in labor relations within a complex, autonomous environment.
- Experience advising on HR and labor relations issues, providing recommendations to both employees and managers in a variety of human resources functions, including recruitment, benefits, and leave management, and experience working in a unionized setting.
- Demonstrated ability to collaborate with cross-functional teams in a dynamic, growth-oriented setting.
- Proficient in Microsoft Office suite and HRIS software administration (including ADP Workforce Now), with an aptitude for learning new software.
- A proactive mindset, high accountability, and commitment to maintaining confidentiality, integrity, and ethical conduct in handling sensitive information.
- Strong analytical skills, capable of making independent, creative problem-solving decisions with sound judgment.
- Initiative to tackle problems with a solution-oriented approach, ensuring quick and efficient resolutions.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills, dedicated to providing exceptional customer service.
