Youth Cultural Outreach Worker

**OVERVIEW**
Under the direction of the Specialized Services Supervisor, the Youth Cultural Outreach Worker with work with a new youth outreach team serving youth aged 14-24 residing within the Districts of Sudbury and Manitoulin to provide outreach-based intensive cultural support as part of the outreach-based wholistic wellness supports. The Youth Cultural Outreach Worker is required to work flexible hours including evenings and weekends to provide cultural supports where the youth are residing, along within community settings and member communities within the Districts of Sudbury and Manitoulin to attend community cultural and wholistic wellness services, supports and events with youth. The Youth Cultural Outreach Worker will work in collaboration with the cultural team and traditional resources for the preservation and promotion of traditional practices within member First Nations, to support the youth’s overall wellness through strengthening cultural identity and ensuring youth stay connected with their culture, language, and community.
**QUALIFICATIONS**
- A Child and Youth Worker Diploma preferred. A diploma or degree in a related field in combination with related experience may be considered.
- Two (2) years of direct minimum experience with at-risk populations.
- Required experience in delivery of cultural services and programs with youth and youth adults.
- Experience working with youth aged 14-24 including knowledge of harm reduction, safety planning, and crisis intervention.
- Lived experiences as a First Nation community member in the First Nation/Urban community setting.
- Previous work with coordinating and developing services with Indigenous youth is an asset

- Must possess knowledge, respect, and sensitivity to Anishinaabe culture and be committed to helping First Nation families strengthen and achieve a healthy level of well-being.
- Ability to speak Anishinaabemowin is a definite asset or must have the willingness to learn.
- Must be willing to participate in the activities, events, and circles for the acquisition of cultural competence.
- Prior work experience for placing of Indigenous practices, approaches, and methods integral to the design of Social Work practices and principles and Anishinaabe based methods that will help families achieve a healthier lifestyle and safe well-being.
- An individual of Anishinaabe ancestry with understanding, practice and sharing of Anishinaabe history, clan system, protocols, etiquette, culture, traditions, ceremonies, principles, and values is preferred, these qualities having resulted in maturity and good judgement.
**WORK ENVIRONMENT**
- Given the traditional practices of the Anishinabek, from time-to-time exposure to wood smoke and the burning of sacred medicines, including tobacco, sweet grass, sage, or cedar, may occur within the work setting.
