**Position Summary**

Provide assistance to families of children with challenges who are referred through Child and Youth with Special Needs division of the Ministry of Children and Child and Youth Development. Assistance may be provided in the child’s home, community, NCDC or other appropriate settings. This position reports to the Child and Youth Development Department Leader.

**Target Population**

Children aged birth to 19 years

**Typical Duties and Responsibilities**
- Participate as a team member in a family centered model of service. As a team member provide child and youth development services in a variety of settings i.e. childcare settings, school or home environments.
- In collaboration with the family, and team members, provide direct and indirect services for a designated zone caseload by ensuring family centered principles are incorporated in service delivery by supporting families in identifying needs of child and family.
- Is a collaborative member of a department and zone team and participates in regular meetings for the purposes of interdisciplinary coordination and planning of services.
- Maintain up to date statistic recording; client service records and reports as outlined in the programming policy and procedures.
- Provide educational opportunities for families, the community and NCDC staff as required.
- Assistance with transition from children’s services to adult services and programs where applicable.
- Provision of appropriate intervention in crisis situations.
- Contribute to the ongoing development of the Child and Youth Development Program, NCDC and community programs and policies.
- Be familiar with applicable NCDC and zone/Department policies and procedures. Maintain CARF standards.
- Assist in maintaining a safe working environment in compliance with Health & Safety regulations and policies (i.e. W.C.B. evacuation, first aid and health policies).
- Provide information and/or collaborate in ordering of supplies and equipment.
- Assist in maintenance of equipment.
- Mentorship of practicum students and/or volunteers as required.
- Assist with orientation for new NCDC staff as required.

- Qualifications_
- Minimum of a diploma in relevant post-secondary education and experience in the human service/child and youth care fields.
- Experience with individuals with special needs an asset.
- Experience and commitment to working in a family centered, collaborative service delivery model.
- Extensive experience in working with children and their families.
- Proven ability in interpersonal relations.
- Knowledge of family systems.
- Excellent oral and written communication and interpersonal skills.
- Knowledgeable of group processes and facilitation techniques an asset.
- Valid First Aid Certificate / CPR as required.
- Valid driver’s license, drivers abstract from ICBC and available vehicle/transportation with adequate insurance.
- Criminal record check clearance.
- Physically capable of performing all aspects of the job.
- Computer literacy.

Monday - Friday 11:30 AM thru 5:30 PM - flexibility to meet the demands of some alternative hour groups as required.
