What can I expect to do in this role? - Identify and develop volunteer services in consultation with program heads. - Monitor and evaluate programs in relation to institutional goals and inmates diverse needs. - Lead the recruitment, training, and supervision of volunteers, ensuring they are well-prepared and motivated. - Resolve issues and maintain ongoing communication with volunteers. - Collaborate with staff and monitor volunteer and inmate participation in programs. - Build and expand links between our institution and community services, fostering a supportive network for inmates during and after incarceration. How do I qualify? Specialized Knowledge and Experience - Demonstrated knowledge and experience with volunteer programming, recruitment, and adult training techniques. - Knowledge of community agencies and resources to identify and arrange appropriate volunteer resources. - Supervisory skills to recruit, train, motivate, and monitor the performance of volunteers, as well as manage the administration of the program. Communication and Interpersonal Skills - Ability to explain and promote the institution's programs to the public, inmates, and volunteers and prepare and deliver presentations. - Ability to establish and maintain relationships with various stakeholders. - Writing skills to draft brochures, correspondence, and reports - Demonstrated tact and diplomacy to appropriately handle requests and complaints. Evaluative, Analytical, Reasoning and Problem-Solving Skills - Ability to determine inmates' program needs based on input from institutional staff and inmates. - Skilled in analyzing gaps in services and recommending changes as well as resolving issues and concerns. - Ability to assess suitability when screening applicants for the program. Other Skills - Ability to acquire knowledge of and comply with relevant legislation (i.e., Ministry of Correctional Services Act, Criminal Code of Canada, Child and Family Services Act) to train and supervise professional agencies and volunteers. - Ability to understand corporate policies, directives and administrative procedures to ensure safety and security of the institution.
