**Position Summary**

The Physician Assistant (PA) works in partnership with supervising family physicians to provide comprehensive, patient-centred primary care within the framework of an interprofessional service team including external service providers. Functioning under the delegated authority of medical directives and in accordance with the College of Physicians and Surgeons of Ontario (CPSO) policies on delegation and supervision, the PA conducts assessments, orders and interprets investigations, develops and implements evidence-based treatment plans, performs approved procedures, and contributes to teaching and quality improvement activities that enhance access and continuity of care for patients rostered to the North Renfrew Family Health Team (NRFHT).

**Position Relationships**

The Physician Assistant reports clinically to the Supervising/Most Responsible Physician(s) and operationally to the Manager of Clinical Services - Primary and Ambulatory Care. The PA collaborates with the interdisciplinary team, including physicians, nurse practitioners, nurses, social workers, pharmacists, dietitians, and administrative staff.

**Duties**:

- Patient Access & Triage: Manage same-day appointments, virtual consultations, and patient queries; assess acuity, offer counselling on health promotion, and arrange timely follow-up.
- Clinical Assessment & Diagnosis: Conduct patient histories and physical examinations; develop differential diagnoses and document all encounters in the electronic medical record (EMR).
- Investigations & Treatment: Order and interpret lab tests and imaging; initiate, renew, or adjust treatments within the PA’s delegated authority; coordinate referrals to external providers and community supports.
- Chronic Disease Management: Lead or support clinical programs for diabetes, hypertension, COPD, mental health, and other common primary-care conditions; provide lifestyle coaching and medication education.
- Procedural Skills: Perform procedures as permitted under medical directives (e.g., immunizations, wound care, Pap tests, cryotherapy, joint injections, suturing, etc.).
- Interprofessional Collaboration: Participate in case discussions, quality and safety meetings, and program development across the Family Health Team.
- Education & Research: Support clinical learners and contribute to research, audits, or quality improvement aligned with team goals.
- Professional Standards & Compliance: Adhere to CPSO, PHIPA, OHSA, and FHT standards; maintain complete and confidential clinical records and report any safety or quality concerns.
- Other duties may be assigned and may not be limited to the scope of an individual department.

**Qualifications**:

- Bachelor’s or Master’s degree from an accredited Physician Assistant program.
- Registered (or eligible for registration) with the College of Physicians and Surgeons of Ontario (CPSO) as a Physician Assistant.
- Canadian Certified Physician Assistant (CCPA) or NCCPA certification.
- Current Basic Cardiac Life Support (BCLS) certification; Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS) preferred.
- Proficiency with EMRs (e.g., TELUS PS Suite, OSCAR) and virtual care platforms.
- Minimum one year of clinical experience in primary care, urgent care, emergency medicine, or community health.
- Demonstrated experience in chronic disease management, preventative care, minor procedures, and women’s health.
- Familiarity working in an interprofessional primary care setting.
- Exceptional communication and interpersonal skills with a patient
- and team-centred focus.
- Demonstrated clinical reasoning and critical thinking abilities; able to prioritize effectively.
- Commitment to ongoing professional development and quality improvement.
- Cultural competence and sensitivity to diverse patient needs.
- High level of professionalism, integrity, and dependability.
- Conflict resolution and negotiation skills to foster collaborative working relationships.
- Proof of professional liability insurance and up-to-date immunizations.
- Eligibility to work in Canada and satisfactory vulnerable sector police clearance.
- Exceptional attendance required.
