The Manager, External Reporting is an integral member of the external reporting team in MFC’s global Group Accounting function. Reporting to the AVP, External Reporting, you will own the financial accounting, analysis and reporting of MFC’s global stock-based compensation program, support the Director, External Reporting in the preparation of the Company’s external reporting, including MFC’s Consolidated Financial Statements and Notes and the Management’s Discussion & Analysis (“MD&A”), and coordinate and perform the high level financial analysis and commentary of MFC’s IFRS financial statements and OSFI’s statement of earnings by line of business. The incumbent will also undertake projects, including those related to process improvements, updates for new accounting standards, and other various ad hoc projects as required.

**Key Responsibilities**:
**Stock-based compensation program**

As the financial reporting lead and contact in this program, responsibilities include:

- Coordinating the flow of financial information between Human Resources, Payroll, Treasury and the Finance teams in our reporting segments. Each group plays a meaningful role in the program, ensuring the resulting financial impact is as intended.
- Working with the Financial Analyst, External Reporting, ensure that program costs are generated & recorded accurately across the Company and perform analysis and reconciliations.
- Support departments with details of the financial results of the program as needed.
- Prepare or review the annual plan and periodic forecasts of the program costs.
- Document SOX controls, accounting models and operating procedures and ensure that these are operating as intended.
- Partner with Internal and External auditors as required.
- Provide training, leadership, regular feedback and mentoring to the Financial Analyst supporting the Manager, External Reporting.

**External reporting of MFC’s consolidated financial statements and MD&A**

The Company’s external financial reporting is disclosed to the public, making this function critical to MFC’s financial operations and reputation. Responsibilities to support this function include:

- Support the Director, External Reporting in ensuring the financial statements are completed on time for all key internal and external deadlines. Perform reviews and analysis to ensure financial reporting is clear and accurate.
- Own the preparation of a number of financial statement notes, including the Stock-based Compensation, Share Capital and Earnings Per Share notes, and support various other notes. Perform review and analysis of financial statement notes prepared by other departments for accuracy and completeness.
- Support the team in ensuring that financial information filed with the SEC is accurate and complete, including XBRL.
- Assist the team in the adoption of new accounting standards, including finalizing the adoption of IFRS 17 and IFRS 9.

**Financial Analysis & Commentary**
- Prepare analysis of variances on the financial statements for the external auditors
- Prepare analysis and commentary by line of business for OSFI (regulatory) reporting to support senior management review.

**Job Requirements**:

- University Business Degree (specialization in accounting or finance) and CPA, CA designation.
- Minimum 5 years of post-qualification accounting and operations experience.
- Prior experience and exposure to external financial reporting at a large finance institution, including OSFI regulatory reporting, is recommended.
- Good attention to detail and aptitude for learning.
- Strong interpersonal skills and the ability to build relationships with key partners across the Company.
- Well organized, with high level of energy and initiative to perform in a fast-paced and challenging environment.
- Ability to work independently and prioritize to meet multiple quarterly reporting deadlines.
- Advanced level of proficiency in Oracle Smartview, MS Excel and other MS office tools.
