**Working for the Faculty of Graduate & Postdoctoral Studies**
The Faculty of Graduate & Postdoctoral Studies (GPS) provides key support for graduate education and graduate students at the University of Alberta. With central responsibility and oversight for the administration of the U of A's graduate programs, the Faculty oversees student programs for over 8,600 graduate students and their records, sets minimum standards for all graduate programs, is entrusted with all aspects of quality assurance in graduate education on campus, deals with over $31m in graduate scholarship funding to almost 4,000 graduate students annually, provides support and training to support graduate students in over 70 departments and faculties, provides multiple central services (admissions, scholarships, student records) to all graduate programs, provides numerous direct services for all graduate students, and is charged with implementing the University's strategic vision for graduate education.
The Faculty's role is to:
- Provide leadership in graduate education, working in creative partnership with Colleges, Faculties, and Departments;
- Ensure that high standards of scholarship are maintained;
- Provide an exceptional graduate student experience through strategic initiatives in areas including targeted programming for both students and supervisors, internship placements and other professional development opportunities, and support for graduate student mental health and wellness; and,
- Administer over $31 million in scholarships and awards every year.
**Position Summary**
Under the direction of the Faculty General Manager, the analyst's prime responsibility is supporting graduate and postdoctoral studies initiatives related to a complex array of functions encompassing the graduate student and postdoctoral researcher journey into, through and out of the University of Alberta. The GPS Data Research Analyst will be an essential member of both the GPS and Performance, Analytics and Institutional Research (PAIR) teams, informing all projects related to graduate student and postdoctoral researcher experience. The position requires a high degree of independence, detail orientation, communication skills, and expertise in statistical analysis.
**Duties**
Lead analytical work to support GPS strategic initiatives:
- Will provide dedicated attention to, and proactively carry out, research and analysis needed to support policy, procedure and innovation related to GPS strategic priorities including recruitment, enrolment, admissions, program progression, program innovation and evolution, graduate student and post-doctoral researcher financial support allocation, student experience, supervision metrics, etc.
- Define and implement analytical work required to support GPS initiatives.
- Utilize external data to gain insights into the graduate education landscape.
- Evaluate the quality of and identify gaps in GPS strategic documents and reports.
- Prepare and present analyses and summaries of data as needed and on-demand from descriptive results visualizations to advanced statistical predictive modeling.
- Respond with evidence-based analyses to provide answers to questions about matters related to graduate and postdoctoral studies from College and Faculty Deans, Associate Deans, Chairs, Associate Chairs, University senior executive officers and leaders, and external partners as needed.
