Murray McKinnon Foundation (MMF) is seeking a **Temporary (5 month) Full-Time Attendance Counsellor**who will be providing **active engagement and assistance to the youth** in the McKinnon Attendance Centre (MAC) program in Oshawa. The Attendance Counsellor will be expected to work Monday to Friday from 8:30 am to 4:30 pm, with some flexibility required to meet the needs of the youth.

- Wage rate - $24.84 hourly)

The primary function of the Attendance Counsellor position is to intake/assess clients for program participation, maintain daily documentation and accountability systems, monitor client progress, facilitate individual and group skill development programming, ongoing program development, the assurance of safety and security, and outreach/liaison with representatives of the social, educational and criminal justice systems for youth.
- Coordinate intake and orientation of all new clients.
- Assess clients for need and risk and set SMART goals.
- Provide evidence based, gender responsive programming based on needs of client group.
- Schedule and monitor client program participation.
- Supervise clients/monitor all safety and security issues. Create and maintain a safe environment.
- Effectively facilitate group skill-development workshops and group sessions. Conduct individual supportive counselling sessions where required.
- Research and develop highly structured skill development programs for at risk/high risk youth as directed.
- Participate in the ongoing implementation and evaluation of all programs.
- Maintain high standards for the effective management of all program/client information.
- Develop of ongoing research of community services/resources and youth support network.
- Effectively use crisis intervention/management skills to diffuse confrontational situations.
- Advocate on client’s behalf when making a referral or conducting outreach.
- Respond to emergency health care/first aid as required.
- Liaise and maintain positive relationships with clients, families, Probation services, Funder, Community Partners, Officers of the Court, referral sources, members of the public.
- Provide documentation in accordance with Agency and Funder’s standards.
- Receive, distribute and originate internal and external correspondence.
- Ensure confidentiality of all client data in accordance with Agency and Ministry.
- Ensure completion of all reports, case logs, and statistical data in a timely fashion ensuring adherence to deadline.
- Escort clients to attendance centre appointments and activities should it be required.
- Represent the Agency at court, workshops, conferences and meetings as directed.
- Distribute and reconcile transit tickets, petty cash, honorariums, program monies where applicable.
- Order supplies and assist with processing purchase orders and invoices and maintaining on-site accounting systems as per Agency standards.
A valid G driver’s license and a good driving record
- A Reliable vehicle with proof of adequate insurance ($2 million liability)
- Proof of Post-Secondary education along with three years of related work experience or an equivalent combination thereof
- Knowledge of relevant legislation (YCJA, CFSA)
- Demonstrated Client-centred, strength-based approach to working with clients
- Proven cultural competency
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills and computer skills
- Ability to work collaboratively with team members, families and community partners
- Indigenous Perspectives and Designations
- Fluency in languages other than English
- Certifications such as ASIST, First Aid/CPR-C, and UMAB
Pay: $24.84-$25.30 per hour
Expected hours: 40 per week
Schedule:
- 8 hour shift
- Day shift
- Monday to Friday
