Join us as an Inclusion Camp Counsellor for 2025 March Break Camp Reporting to the Program Coordinator and Inclusion Support Services Coordinator, you will provide support with the integration of children with special needs into the City of Oshawa camp programs. This is a fantastic opportunity to gain valuable experience, develop leadership skills, and make a real difference in the lives of children.
March Break Camp runs March 16 to March 20, 2026. Mandatory staff training will take place evenings and weekends prior to March Break.

What You Will Do
- Provide 1:1 or 1:2 support to participants who benefit from additional support, helping them thrive in a fun and welcoming camp environment
- Get creative by suggesting and implementing program and environmental adaptations to create an inclusive environment
- Maintain communication with caregivers as appropriate
- Promote appropriate behaviour using learned strategies and acquired skills
- Physically assist with lifts, transfers, toileting, feeding and other needs as required
- Ensure the safety, enjoyment and care of registered participants in City of Oshawa camp programs
- Respond to first aid situations
- Become familiar with City of Oshawa policies, procedures and emergency procedures and be able to implement such procedures (fire, power failure, building evacuation)
- Report all incidents, accidents, issues and concerns to the Program Coordinator
- Complete all formal paperwork (accident, incident, complaint forms, weekly attendance)
- Answer questions and inquiries, while providing effective customer service to registrants/patrons of the program
- Ensure all equipment is prepared/put away during each session
- Perform other duties as assigned
What We Are Looking For
- Must be able to commit to the full term of employment (March 16-20 , 2026)
- Currently enrolled or completed a post-secondary education program in a related field is considered an asset (ie. Educational Assistant, Nursing, Recreation and Leisure Studies, Teacher, Therapeutic Recreation)
- Experience working with children with intellectual disabilities including autism and other needs
- Previous volunteer or employment in a camp or similar setting is considered an asset
- Must possess and keep current Standard First Aid & CPR 'C' qualifications (or be willing to obtain prior to starting employment)
- Demonstrate strong customer service and communication skills to deal effectively and courteously with staff and the general public; strong interpersonal skills with the ability to establish and maintain positive working relationships
- Attend all mandatory staff meetings and training's, including evenings and weekends
- Ability to swim is required
- Ability to ice skate is considered an asset
As a condition of employment, the City of Oshawa will require successful candidates to provide a Criminal Records Check with Vulnerable Sector Search.
