**About the BHP Potash Business**:
In 2021, BHP approved a CA$7.5 billion investment in Jansen Stage 1 in Saskatchewan, Canada, which is aligned with our strategy of growing exposure to future facing commodities in world-class assets. The project is expected to produce 4.35 million tonnes of potash per year with initial production targeted for 2026, ramping up to full production over two years. Jansen potash project is located approximately 140 km southeast of Saskatoon. Potash opens a new front for growth and is an expandable resource that can support a century or more of operations. Potash provides BHP with greater diversification by commodity, country, and customer.
**About the Role**:
BHP’s Our Requirements for Community requires all our operated assets to implement actions to better understand communities, effectively plan and implement our commitments and evaluate and measure our performance. This standard outlines the mandatory minimum performance requirements for social research and studies, including social impact and opportunity assessments; human rights impact assessments; community perception surveys; engagement activities; and complaints and grievance mechanisms. The day-to-day implementation of the requirements is managed by Corporate Affairs team members across BHP.
The **Principal Corporate Affairs, JOL** is a member of the Corporate Affairs team, and reports to the Manager, Corporate Affairs, Potash based in Saskatoon. The Principal will provide both the technical and strategic expertise to develop and execute Potash’s stakeholder management strategies, plans and initiatives to fulfil BHP’s commitments and communicate and advocate, as required, to support the delivery of Jansen Stage 1 with a focus on Jansen’s outbound logistics, transportation, international trade and regulatory needs.
The Principal will play a key role in representing BHP when engaging with a wide range of stakeholders, at all levels, that may be impacted by the Jansen Project’s transportation and outbound logistics initiatives. They will provide strategic insight, regulatory research, and analysis, and demonstrated experience of successful outreach and engagement activities with stakeholders impacted by the Western Canadian supply chain and transportation infrastructure network. They will protect and improve BHP’s reputation through pro-active and relationship-based engagement with relevant community, provincial, and federal government stakeholders and through communicating Potash’s long-term social, environmental, and economic objectives.
**Key Accountabilities**:
- Identifies, engages, and manages a range of diverse internal and external stakeholders that would be impacted by Jansen mine logistics and potash supply chains
- Monitors, analyses, and provides strategic advice to the business on Canadian trade relations, export/import regulatory environment, transportation, and supply chains
- Plans, tracks the delivery of, and manages corporate affairs and stakeholder relations initiatives, activities, and projects that generate value and drive the achievement of Jansen Stage 1 Project transportation and logistics objectives
- Sources information, plans and conducts analyses to support evidence-based decision making in alignment with longer term business objectives
- Engages the capabilities of the entire company and key suppliers & partners to fulfil BHP’s commitments and purpose while advancing the Jansen Stage 1 project deliverables and timeline
- Identifies and assesses risks, uses BHP's risk management framework, and builds a risk aware culture to support safe and mutually beneficial performance outcomes
