**HOURS OF WORK**:
Monday - Friday, Days - 7.5 hour shifts, may include evenings and weekends

**How Regional Indigenous Cancer Coordinator support our teams at Grand River Hospital**:
The Indigenous Coordinator role provides support and advocacy for First Nations, Inuit, and Métis patients and their families throughout Waterloo Wellington with the goal of improving access to culturally safe service delivery for Indigenous community members throughout the cancer journey. The project coordinator works to ensure the development and sustainability of a respectful bi-lateral relationship with Indigenous community partners and leaders through education initiatives and systems level policy driven change management. This role works closely with the Regional Indigenous Navigator to implement the Waterloo Wellington Regional First Nations, Inuit, Métis and Urban Indigenous Cancer Plan with the support of the Regional Cancer Program. Their role will be foundational to ongoing efforts to reduce health inequities faced by Indigenous peoples.

The Indigenous Coordinator will partner and connect with Indigenous Cancer Coordinators across the province for learning opportunities and knowledge sharing in a monthly meeting hosted by the Ontario Health - Indigenous Cancer Care Unit (OH-ICCU).

**Responsibilities**:

- Builds relationships with Indigenous and non-Indigenous community and healthcare partners to enhance cancer care services.
- Relationship building within the healthcare system and partner hospitals.
- Assists in the development and evaluation of new patient programs for both the Regional Cancer Program (RCP) and region (i.e., regional FNIM palliative care strategy).
- Consults with other health professionals and agencies such as Community Health Centres, Indigenous organizations, Traditional Healers, and Elders from various communities to provide support to patients and their networks.
- Awareness of Canadian Indigenous history, social determinants of health impacts within the healthcare system.
- Familiarity with FNIM communities, organizations and history and trauma-informed with FNIM communities.
- Actively participates in OH-ICCU and regional FNIM-specific meetings and events to facilitate program growth and operationalize key Indigenous Cancer Strategy initiatives.
- Consults on patient-related program activities implemented in the Regional Cancer Program to create recommendations for program improvement.
- Knowledge of some culturally relevant ceremonies would be an asset.

**At Grand River Hospital, the Regional Indigenous Cancer Coordinator brings the following**:

- Certifications in Indigenous Studies or Cultural Safety training preferred or lived experience as an Indigenous person. Bachelor’s degree in a related field is an asset.
- Minimum of 3 years experience working with Indigenous communities in a healthcare or social services setting.
- Experience with and supportive of traditional healing practices. Ability to perform some culturally relevant ceremonies would be an asset.
- Extensive knowledge of the cancer care system and culturally safe care practices.
- Strong project management skills, including planning, evaluation, and community engagement.
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to work independently and within a team.

**Working Conditions**:

- Travel: Possession of valid driver’s license and regular access to a vehicle required
- Work requires engaging with community, providers, and program leadership in various locations including cancer centres, hospitals, clinics, Indigenous community organizations etc.
