**Position Summary**:
The Secretary displays excellent communication skills to successfully and respectfully communicate with patients and their family members, staff, referring physicians and properly following referral institutions and requests to ensure a smooth departmental flow.
**Responsibilities**:
- Administrative Duties _
- Answers the telephone and schedules appointments, obtaining and conveying pertinent patient information to physician's offices (conveys to the referring physician's office any contradictions and conflicting procedures).
- Conducts reminder calls and communicates missed appointments to the referring physicians.
- Performs all patient greeting and registration and informs staff of patient arrival
- Prepares patient requisitions and performs any pertinent record keeping.
- Alter appropriate communication and interpersonal skills to deal effectively with patients and their families, co-workers, physicians, volunteers and others within our health care community.
- Demonstrate values and a commitment to foster a healthy, supportive work environment dedicated to delivering a high quality care experience though compassion, innovation and respect.
- Patient Information _
- Responsible for filing and retrieval of patient information (in both manual and in a PACS environment).
- Prior to scanning documents into PACS, check for completeness of consent forms and patient requisitions (signed and doses completed).
- When required, responsible for purging records in keeping with the Public Hospital’s Act Requirements.
- Conveys patients' results or images (prepares cd as required) to referring physicians and their offices via telephone, fax, or mail, upon request, adhering to applicable Privacy legislation.
- Other general secretarial duties as assigned
**Position Requirements**:
- Successful completion of grade 12 or equivalent.
- Successful completion of a Medical Terminology course.
- Must be a trained typist with basic knowledge and navigation of Microsoft Word and Excel.
- Successfully able to perform their function in accordance with prescribed standards that focuses on the priority of People Safety and the delivery of the highest standard of Quality Care.
- Demonstrate the physical and mental capabilities necessary for proper and efficient performance of the essential duties of the position.
**Preferred Requirements**:
- Previous use and navigation with Cerner
