NTR is Indigenous talk radio that provides a trusted and indispensable source of information, current events, music discussion, Elder and youth perspectives, arts and entertainment while strengthening the civic and cultural life of the communities we serve from coast to coast to coast.
**About NationTalk Radio**:
NationTalk Radio (NTR) is a non-partisan, 100% Indigenous-owned community radio station that is listener/sponsor supported and independently managed. NTR offers a channel for community building and cultural enrichment across Canada.
Volunteers and staff will provide creative programming and services by:
- **Focusing on our communities.** Through radio excellence, we will create a unique community resource that promotes connections and fosters a sense of belonging. We will maintain a local and national focus for sharing news, arts, culture, opinions and even some hosted shows on music. We will serve as a by-us-for-us community solution providing an outlet for current news and hyperlocal creative skills and energies.
- **Serving the interests of Indigenous Peoples across the nation. **NTR seeks to entertain, stimulate and challenge listeners with wide-ranging news, music, issues and public affairs.
- **Striving to be a forum for many voices**. We provide an outlet for the expression of a wide spectrum of ideas; targeting those typically lacking media access.
- **Providing a medium for local Indigenous community based stations to upload and share one hour content-rich shows on a national level **at the same time weekly**.** This also includes one hour of programming to participating Indigenous high schools and their students based on topics they want to discuss and present.
- **Distributing content nationwide.** We share our content on a syndication program to provide more needed content for Indigenous run local radio stations.
- **Broadcasting our signal through the TuneIn app to virtually all televisions and car radios in Turtle Island and around the world.**
**Job Duties and Tasks for Radio and Video Television Announcer**:
Prepare and deliver news, sports, and/or weather reports, gathering and rewriting material to convey required information and fit specific time slots.
Read news flashes and media releases to inform audiences of important events.
Identify stations and introduce or close shows using memorized or read scripts, and/or ad-libs.
Select program content in conjunction with producers and assistants. This will be based on factors such as program specialties, audience favourites, and public requests.
Study background information and prepare adequately for programs or interviews.
Comment on music and other matters, such as weather or travel conditions.
Interview guests about their lives, their work, or topics of current interest.
Discuss various topics over the telephone with viewers or listeners.
Host civic, charitable, or promotional events that are broadcast over television or radio.
Make promotional appearances at public or private events in order to represent their employers.
Commit to training procedures to use simple control consoles.
Announce talk radio selections, station breaks, commercials, or public service information, and accept requests from the listening audience.
Keep daily program logs to provide information on all elements aired during broadcast, such as interview selections and station promotions.
Record commercials for later broadcast and distribution.
Locate guests to appear on talk or interview shows.
Describe or demonstrate products that listeners or viewers may purchase through specific shows or in stores.
Coordinate games, contests, or other on-air competitions, performing such duties as asking questions and awarding prizes.
Attend if logístically possible press conferences in order to gather information for broadcast.
Provide commentary and conduct interviews in person and virtually during sporting events, parades, protests, conventions, and other events.
Give network cues permitting selected syndicated stations to receive programs.
Moderate panels or discussion shows on topics such as current affairs, health, business, art, or education.
