Advocacy and Engagement Coordinator

The B.C. Wildlife Federation (BCWF) is a province-wide non-profit charitable association with over 40,000 annual members that consist of hunters, anglers, sport shooters, and conservationists. Our organization represents the interests of British Columbians whose aims are to conserve and protect BC’s fish, wildlife, and habitat for present and future generations.
We are currently seeking a full-time Advocacy and Engagement Coordinator. The coordinator’s primary duties are to provide administrative support to the BCWF and coordinate BCWF advocacy activities. The Advocacy Coordinator will manage a variety of member and club engagement initiatives, and special projects, and engage in a range of policy issues throughout BC that involve conservation, fish, wildlife, habitat, hunting, angling, and firearms.
The office is conveniently located close to Hwy 1 and the Golden Ears Bridge. Standard hours of work are Mon-Fri, 8:00 am - 4:00 pm. Occasional evenings, weekends, and/or extended hours will be required to accommodate activities and events.

**Competencies and Skills**
- Post-secondary education with a focus on Environmental Sciences, Law, and Criminology, with experience in Communications
- Minimum 2 years of experience in advocacy/engagement work in a related field
- Demonstrated interest in, and a solid understanding of policies surrounding Conservation, Fish, Wildlife, Habitat, Hunting, Angling, and Firearms
- Solid understanding of confidentiality, information security, privacy, and compliance concepts
- Highly effective verbal and written communication skills with the ability to be tactful, and build productive working relationships with various BCWF working groups, including clubs, members, staff, and our volunteer Board of Directors as well as other stakeholders
- Must be flexible, resourceful, analytical, and methodical in approach to emerging situations with the ability to act quickly and decisively in an ever-changing work environment
- Outstanding coordination and organizational skills with the ability to multi-task
- Capacity to effectively manage both their time and priorities
- Presentation skills, with comfort in presenting to and facilitating groups
- Must have a positive attitude and work well in a team-oriented environment
- Proficient with MS Office, and a working knowledge of Social Media platforms is an asset
**Core Responsibilities**
- With the BCWF team, plan, and implement staff, member, public, and elected official engagement events with a focus on advocacy, on-the-ground projects, and “How to get involved”
- Perform research, including reviewing current or emerging policies
- Liaise with BCWF clubs, Regional Presidents, all levels of government, and Interprovincial firearms and hunting organizations on issues involving Conservation, Fish, Wildlife, Habitat, Hunting, and Firearms (including range procedures) regarding the findings and offer recommendations based on research
- Assist in preparing talking points and briefing notes related to Conservation, Fish, Wildlife, Habitat, Hunting, and Firearms issues
- Assist in preparing press releases associated with Conservation, Fish, Wildlife, Habitat, Hunting, and Firearms issues
- Assist in organizing large public/town hall meetings associated with Conservation, Fish, Wildlife, Habitat, Hunting, and Firearms
**Firearms Related**:
- Advise and support BCWF clubs, Regional Presidents, all levels of government, and Interprovincial firearms and hunting organizations on related issues such as PAL/PALR/range certification, etc.
- Develop and submit views and recommendations regarding Firearm owner rights, responsibilities, and range operations
- Support and recommend innovative practices regarding range development, safety, management, and environmental concerns
- Collaborate with the Firearms Committee and Recreational Sport Shooting (RSS) Committee on issues related to succession planning and continuity within those committees
- Monitor firearms-related activities and publications from other provincial wildlife organizations and federations as well as organizations that focus on firearms ownership and advocacy, and when appropriate distribute to the BCWF board of directors and clubs
- The BCWF Executive, in consultation with the Firearms Committee and RSS Committee, will develop Key Performance Indicators (KPI) to measure the purposed deliverables
