**The Seabird Island Band is a multi-faceted First Nations Band that includes government, business, service, and nonprofit services. We work as an integrated team to improve the health, education, and economic opportunities for First Nations people to create thriving First Nations families and communities.**

**Position Summary**:
Community Services (CS) consists of, community events, recreation, membership, culture, community engagement, and volunteer coordination. The CS Supervisor’s primary role is to provide programming and leadership that allow the community to learn and grow together, through recreational programming, community events like Seabird Festival, cultural celebrations, and opportunities for community members to be part of a movement creating community spirit and cohesion. This position will develop and implement a Community Communication/Engagement Strategy and a plan for the Inclusion of the Language and Culture throughout the organization.

**Preferred Qualifications**:

- Post-secondary education in First Nations Studies, Cultural Resource Management, Recreation, or another related field an asset.
- 2-3 years’ supervisory experience
- Experience in training and developing staff.
- Business management experience. Ability to develop, adjust and maintain multiple budgets
- Experience working with children, youth, and elders

**Qualifications/Requirements**:

- Directly related experience in a First Nations Community Service position, preferably in managing Health and Social Programs
- Excellent leadership, planning, time management, and organizational skills
- Ability to balance competing priorities, multitask, and to work under pressure.
- Ability to build strong positive relationships with staff, the Director, and with community members.
- Ability to maintain a high level of respect and confidence from clients and the community.
- Able to demonstrate flexibility and creativity when called upon.
- Must be available for varied shifts, including some evenings and weekends.
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
- Ability to adhere to Oath of Confidentiality and Seabird Island Band Policies and Procedures.
- Knowledge, respect and understanding of Stó:lō culture, traditions and language is considered an asset.
- Valid BC Driver’s License, Class 5.
- Satisfactory Criminal Record Check.

**Primary Responsibilities**:
**Staffing**:

- Manage Community Services staffing needs and ensure that all programs are adequately staffed, with well qualified employees, to meet program requirements.
- Cultivate professionalism, diligence and dedication in staff and volunteers, ensuring quality program delivery at all times.
- Ensure that all staff within the applicable services have the appropriate training, criminal record checks, and other documentation as required by SIB or relevant licensing bodies.
- Ensure that all staff are always up-to-date and familiar with all applicable policies, including the Seabird HR Policy.
- Provide direct supervision to a team of staff

**Programming**:

- Initiate and implement program planning.
- Monitor and address concerns within the Community Services budgets.
- Compile and submit monthly reports to the Health Support Program Manager, containing both narrative and statistical information.
- Promote enrolment in all Community Services areas which includes encouraging community awareness of programs and services available and promoting the programs to potential community members (on and off reserve), including those that are hardest to reach, in greatest need, or of heightened vulnerability.
- Alert the Health supports manager and/or the Health and Social Development Director, and/or Child and Family Services / Mental Health Program of any concerns regarding vulnerable clients.
- Ensure that all programs are meeting or exceeding the expectations for clients.
- Ensure that all programs under the CS umbrella have developed culturally appropriate programing and services to meet the needs of the clients.
- Evaluate all programs from an objective stand point. Plan and strategize annually to ensure that all programs meet the changing and evolving needs of the client base.

**Other**:

- Participate in community activities and functions as required by SIB and Chief and Council, including but not limited to Seabird Island Festival, and the Seabird Island Open House.
- Act as an ambassador to other communities and the province at large, representing the image of Seabird Island Band at all times.
- Other duties or responsibilities as assigned by your supervisor, Director, or the CAO.
