The Seabird Island Band is a multi-faceted First Nations Band that includes government, business, service, and nonprofit services. We work as an integrated team to improve the health, education, and economic opportunities for First Nations people to create thriving First Nations families and communities.

**Position Summary**:
Under the direction of the Health and Social Development Director, the Family Development Supervisor (FDS) will operate efficiently in accordance with the philosophies, policies, and objectives established by Seabird Island Band Management. The FDS will manage referrals to the family development team and the family home, in close Child and Family Program Manager and the Quality Assurance team. The FDS will assign family development workers to referred clients, schedule family entry into and exit from the family home, and ensure all clients have access to services. As a supervisor, the position will be responsible for providing ongoing support and performance management of the family development/family home team. The FDS will ensure strong cultural values, and programming that builds family bonds and resilience as well as a grounding in culture and community support. The FDS will monitor the weekly and monthly budgets.

**Qualifications**:

- Post-secondary education in social work, counselling or other related field
- A minimum of 5 years’ experience in applied social work or child and family services
- A detailed and professional understanding of family dynamics, intergenerational trauma, healthy parenting models
- Understanding of the family structure and systems to solve complex family and relationship issues
- Ability to direct activity and programming that support family members in building self-worth, resilience and boundaries
- Three to five years’ supervisory experience of multi-disciplinary staff
- Directly related supervisory experience in a First Nations Child and Family Services position
- An understanding of the standard expectations of the counselling profession
- An ability to ensure kind, caring, compassionate care to clients while ensuring the best decisions are being made
- Ability to maintain a high level of respect and confidence from clients and the community
- Valid BC Driver’s License
- Sign and adhere to the Oath of Confidentiality.
- Computer literacy on Microsoft Windows, Word, Excel, and other computer programs as required
- Knowledge of the Stó:lō Nation culture, traditions, and language

**Primary Responsibilities**:

- Staffing - direct reports
- Supervise family development and home staff
- Ensure adequate staffing for family needs, with qualified employees, to meet program and policy requirements
- Cultivate professionalism, diligence and dedication in staff, ensuring quality program delivery at all times
- Ensure that all staff within the applicable programs have the appropriate training, credentials, oath of confidentiality, criminal record checks, and other documentation as required by SIB or relevant licensing bodies
- Ensure that all program staff are always up-to-date and familiar with all applicable governing and funding policies, including the Seabird HR Policy
- Programs
- Make referrals to various programs and services based on family needs
- Compile and submit monthly reports to the Health and Social Development Director, containing both narrative and statistical information
- Participate in case conferences related to family development/child protection issues
- Develop and deliver various workshops based on the needs of the families in the programs
- Advocate on behalf of families
- Alert the Health and Social Development Director of any concerns
- Other
- Participate in community activities and functions as required by SIB and Chief and Council, including but not limited to Seabird Island Festival, and the Seabird Island Open House
- Act as an ambassador to other communities and the province at large, representing the image of Seabird Island Band at all
