Mental Health Assessment and Intervention Worker

This is an exciting opportunity to be a member of a YJ Mental Health ACCESS, a collaborative between CTYS and Turning Point Youth Services that supports youth and families involved with the youth justice system. The purpose of the position is to engage youth referred from Toronto Probation Services and Youth Mental Health Court Workers and provide brief mental health assessments and intervention. Flexibility is required to work some evenings to accommodate youth and family. This is a brief service model which will include some outreach to meet youth and/or families at probation, at CTYS, in the community, in the home or virtual work when it is appropriate.

**Responsibilities**:
- Provide mental health assessments and brief counselling intervention for youth and families identified and referred by Toronto probation services and youth mental health courts
- Work collaboratively with youth, parents and probation services by developing individualized assessment and effective service delivery plans using a strengths based approach
- Provide youth with a clear pathway to gain a psychological or psychiatric assessment
- Support youth in attending and following up with assessments
- Provide psychoeducation to youth and/or families regarding mental health diagnosis and services
- Work with youth and families to transition to community based services, follow up on assessment recommendation and/ or connect with ongoing therapeutic supports
- Communicate with probation and mental health court workers ongoing to educate them on the supports that are available through the program
- Advise Program Manager of any serious occurrence and ensure documentation
- Provide case coverage/support for other team members due to vacation/illness/emergency when assigned
- Participate in supervision, program meetings, all-staff meetings, clinical consultations, peer consultations and committee/partnership meetings when required
- Identify and discuss client, community trends/needs and make recommendations for programming
- Ensure that all recordings and documentation meet CTYS Policy and Procedures requirements, accreditation standards and are completed in a timely manner
- Ensure that CR database is updated at least once weekly
- Participate in agency committees, special events or community activities when determined appropriate in consultation with the Program Manager
- Participate in training and professional development activities as required
- Participate in yearly service planning and program development meeting when requested by the Program Manager
- Manage client-related expenditures as per annual budget
- Comply with agency program policies and procedures in all duties pertaining to the job
- Other duties as assigned
**Qualifications**:
- A graduate degree in Social Work or related helping profession
- Membership in the appropriate professional regulatory body (RSW or R.P)
- Demonstrated experience working from an anti-oppressive framework with youth and families from diverse ethno-cultural and socio-economic backgrounds including youth with diverse intellectual abilities and racialized communities
- Minimum three years experience working in children’s mental health
- Knowledge of and experience working in the Y.J system
- Experience working with youth with addictions
- Experience in strength based mental health assessments, brief intervention modalities and CBT
- Experience working with trauma informed, resiliency and strength based approaches
- Demonstrate skills in assessment, counseling, case planning and coordination with marginalized adolescents and their families
- Strong interpersonal skills and ability to build rapport and engage marginalized youth
- Knowledge of child and adolescent development and crisis intervention techniques
- Knowledge of community resources to support youth
- Experience working from a community outreach model
- Demonstrated ability to work collaboratively and effectively with the youth justice system and collateral service providers
- Ability to work independently and as part of a team
- A valid Ontario driver’s license and daily access to a vehicle an asset
- Proficiency in a second language an asset
- Required Covid Vaccination
**Job Types**: Full-time, Fixed term contract
Contract length: 12 months
**Salary**: $63,108.92-$75,355.35 per year
