Sinai Health is seeking a Dental Assistant Team Leader to join our team.
Under the direction and supervision of the Clinic Manager, you will provide oversight to the daily operations of the clinical team.
About the Department of Dentistry
Dentistry at Mount Sinai Hospital has evolved from a volunteer clinic in the 1950s to one of Canada's largest and most academically vibrant dental programs.
Today, our dedicated team of dentists and surgeons is committed to delivering excellent, patient-centered oral and dental care to patients with complex medical conditions and disabilities in a hospital environment.
Our program is comprised of multiple dental clinics specializing in the treatment of rare, challenging-to-treat, and difficult-to-diagnose conditions. Additionally, we take pride in being the exclusive site for Ontario's ministry-funded program dedicated to comprehensive temporomandibular joint (TMJ) reconstruction.
As a fully affiliated partner with the University of Toronto, our clinics proudly serve as hubs for both education and research conducted by our clinicians. The insights gained not only contribute to patient care globally but also play a pivotal role in training thousands of learners through our safe and inclusive dental clinics.
In this role you will:
- Setup Clinic, i.e. test film, x-ray processor temperature, autoclave spore testing and other biological testing, check tray set up, counter preparations
- Participate in Quality Assurance duties, including recording daily, weekly, monthly and annually quality assurance records.
- Preparation and organization of the dental operatories with appropriate dental and surgery instruments, equipment and materials.
- Maintain aseptic and sterilization in accordance with RCDSO regulations and Hospital Infection Control (IPAC) regulations
- Check the schedule to ensure that the lab cases have arrived for patient’s scheduled for prosthodontic insertions the next business day.
- Serve as lead to dental assisting and nursing team, assigning tasks and monitoring work, liaise and reports to the Clinic Manager or delegate on all operational issues
- Monitor the activities of the dental clinic and ensure its smooth and efficient functioning, adjusting schedules (with clinic manager consultation) when necessary. Report issues or concerns to the Clinic Manager
- Provide and review clinic utilization schedules with Clinic Manager
- Ensure the daily quality assurance maintenance records for opening and closing of the dental clinic; operatories; sterilization area; and overall dental clinic.
- Ensure appropriate documentation for equipment, instruments and hand-pieces repairs.
- Help in the training/orientation of new dental assistants and nursing staff, Acts as a technical resource to dental assisting/nursing staff, responding to situations requiring advanced knowledge.
- Ensure Dental Assistants and Nurses are following OSHA guidelines
- Participate in dental assisting/nursing staff employee performance reviews
Departmental Maintenance
- Daily / Weekly / Monthly maintenance as required.
- Ultrasonic washing, packaging, sterilizing and maintenance of all instruments and equipment in the Dental Clinic, according to Infection Control Policy and Universal Precautions.
- Monitor department supplies. Make note of any items that should be ordered. Restock supplies in operatories. Check expiry dates of dental products.
- Check daily on the organization of your operatory. Ensure sufficient stationary items are available (progress notes/charting records/treatment planning forms, etc - check the binder in your operatory to ensure there are sufficient forms).
- Restock the emergency room supplies and change x-ray solutions; take test x-ray. Maintain quality assurance records in the Emergency Department.
- Monitors and maintains Amalgam Separator as required by regulations and maintains a current and accurate Amalgam Separator log.
- Daily opening and/or closing maintenance. Weekly cleaning of autoclave and x-ray processor.
- Performs specific responsibilities, tasks and duties as may from time to time be assigned by the Clinic Manager to ensure the efficient running of the Department.

Mandatory
- Completion of post-secondary Dental Assistant Diploma received in a recognised Community College
- Certified Dental Assistant certification with HARP (Healing Arts Radiation Protection)
- Minimum five years related dental assisting position
- Evidence of continuing education since graduation in related courses/program
Preferred
- Multi-disciplinary practice experience considered an asset
Skills and Knowledge
- Ability to read and interpret documents such as safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions and procedure manuals.
