Portfolio Manager (Fundamental)

Summary

Westerkirk Capital Inc. (‘WCI’), a private investment company based in Victoria, BC is seeking a Portfolio Manager. The organization is a single-family office investment enterprise managing assets via internal direct and third-party/external managers across a variety of portfolios and asset classes including fixed income, public equity, private equity, hedge funds, infrastructure, and real estate.

Opportunity

The Portfolio Manager will be responsible for providing investment advice for a portfolio of long-term-orientated investments. The focus of the successful incumbent will be to develop investment recommendations and to support the build-out of investment infrastructure for our expanding portfolios and platforms.

Accountabilities

**Lead the investment team in the following areas**:

- Develop and maintain a trusted business relationship with existing clients.
- Understand client and fund investment goals, preferences, and risk tolerances.
- Develop investment theses based on macro and industry trends and analysis.
- Use external networks to source potential public and private investments.
- Recommend investments based on propriety investment reports and modelling.
- Develop internal and external research resources to support recommendations.
- Research and incorporate ESG, impact and other non-financial considerations.
- Maintain coverage (quarterly updates, price targets) on target industries and companies.
- Create and deliver investment cases to investors and boards advising them.
- Stay current and provide updates on investment industry trends.

**Qualifications**:

- Passion for investing and active fundamental stock selection.
- Proven track record of 7+ years of experience managing active investment portfolios.
- Expertise in fundamental analysis and modelling.
- Expert-level user of Excel and Bloomberg, with some coding experience.
- Experience covering companies in a broad range of industries.
- Understanding of thematic investment trends and impact investing.
- Preference for MBA and CFA charterholder or equivalent education/experience.
- Able to travel 2-6 times per year.

- Good investment perspective and humility, able to re-evaluate recommendations.
- Able to work independently to deliver high-quality analysis and reports.
- Able to cultivate partnerships and work collaboratively in a team environment.
- Strong verbal communication and interpersonal skills.
- Capable of using the utmost discretion when handling confidential and sensitive material.
- Commitment to high ethical standards as well as a positive, cooperative attitude.
