SYSTRA Canada is an engineering and consulting firm whose primary focus is to offer transportation solutions, whether for passengers or goods: feasibility studies of building a new railway line, increasing the capacity of the existing infrastructure, privatization of a railway.

Context:
SYSTRA Canada is looking for a Biodiversity and Natural Environments Expert. The main mission of this position is to conduct ecological assessments and diagnostics of fauna, flora, and habitats as part of Environmental Impact Assessments (EIA), ensuring the regulatory compliance of projects.

Missions/Main Duties:

- Conduct ecological assessments and diagnostics of fauna, flora, and habitats for Environmental Impact Assessments (EIA), ensuring compliance with regulations.
- Evaluate and map biodiversity issues, assess project impacts on ecosystems, and analyze pressures, threats, and habitat models.
- Design, implement, and monitor measures for avoidance, reduction, compensation, and ecological restoration, including habitat creation and management plans.
- Develop solutions for ecological connectivity, such as wildlife crossings and corridors, to maintain habitat continuity.
- Prepare clear technical reports and regulatory documents, ensuring effective coordination and communication with authorities and project stakeholders.

Profile/Skills:
**Education**: Bachelor’s or master’s degree in natural sciences, environmental engineering, or a related field.

**Years of experience**: 5 to 10 years experience in a similar role.

**Technical competencies**:

- Knowledge of Quebec and Canadian environmental regulations.
- Experience with geospatial databases and GIS software (ArcGIS, QGIS).
- Ability to design environmental compensation models.
- Clear verbal and written communication skills, both in French and in English*

- and English-speaking companies. Bilingualism is therefore fundamental to building strong relationships with our customers, understanding their specific needs, communicating effectively in their preferred language and facilitating strategic meetings.
