Detachment Services Assistant

**Position Summary**:
Responsible for providing administrative and operational support to Royal Canadian Mounted Police personnel, and information and customer services to the public.
**Core Expectations of Role**:
- Responds to enquiries, complaints, and requests for information and services from the public.
- Review, develop, recommend and implement changes to internal procedures to enhance the delivery of administrative and operational support activities within the Detachment.
- Provide a court liaison and administrative service i.e., research files and records, compile court briefs, transcribe statements, arrange court dates, communicate with legal professionals, attend court, swear to information, and may provide a Commissioner of Oaths and Affidavit service.
- Resolves public and internal complaints through mediation, communication, and critical thinking.
- Provides administrative support to frontline police officers.
- Operates police radio and various computer equipment using Police Reporting and Occurrence System (PROS), Canadian Police Information Centre (CPIC), TEAM, JEIN, etc.
- Select and relay pertinent information from data banks and background from files to
police officers using a police radio, and action requests for additional back-up and/or
assistance.
- Respond to emergency calls, record information on the details of the complaint, and
- Other duties as may be assigned by the Detachment Sergeant.
**Skills/Knowledge**:
- Excellent communication skills.

- Ability to remain calm and deal effectively in highly stressful situations with individuals who may be experiencing a crisis.
- Knowledge of relevant related legislation, policies, guidelines, and procedures.
**Decision-Making**:
- Sound judgement when assessing, evaluating priorities and urgencies, and responding to front desk and/or telephone enquiries for information, complaints, and requests for services such as the payment of a fine.
- Sound judgement is needed to determine which data source will provide the optimal information to respond to internal and external requests and to search automated systems in a manner that will establish criteria for enhancing subsequent searches.

**Working Conditions**:
- This position requires regular work in front of a PC, desk and phone.
- This position is a front-facing and the first line of enquiry.
- This position may experience situations of high conflict or stress.
**Education and Training**:
- Minimum Grade 12 education and successful completion of post-secondary school in office and/or business administration or equivalent combination of formal training and experience.
- Software knowledge and proficiency in Microsoft Word, Excel, and electronic mail systems.
- Experience maintaining electronic and/or hard copy filing systems.
- Experience working with highly sensitive and confidential information.
- Demonstrated ability to independently establish priorities and proceed with objectives.
- Proficiency in the English language is required (bilingual preferred).
- Working knowledge of the criminal code, municipal government administration, municipal by-laws, and relevant provincial and federal legislation preferred.
**Related Experience**:
- Minimum of two (2) years related experience.
**Security Clearance**:
- Government of Canada Reliability Status Security clearance is required for this position
**Job Types**: Full-time, Permanent
Pay: $48,141.00-$63,666.00 per year
