**Environmental Technical Specialist 1**

Annual salary: $ 70,800.00 - 76,300.00

**What you'll do**
- Under direction of more senior staff, plans, organizes and undertakes a variety of technical field and office investigations

related to construction, operations, maintenance and waste management/ pollution prevention; conducts field reviews and
inspections, gathers data and information, recommends study approach and provides input into the identification of
methodologies required to deal with the associated environmental issues.
- Researches, assesses and documents background data on environmental issues and problems for use in the assessment

of a variety of sites.
- Participates in the development and administration of various programs related to the environmental components of BC

Hydro's operations.
- Discusses hazardous or other waste storage facility procedures and practices, licensing and other environmental

requirements with Hydro and regulatory agency staff, other environmental technical specialists, etc.; participates in public
consultation programs and meetings and/or training or presentation sessions, as required; provides training in waste
management methods and a variety of other environmental management techniques.
- Participates in environmental reviews of operating activities and facilities to identify potential environmental impacts and

required mitigation methods; follows up to observe if approved work is carried out in accordance with all pertinent
environmental legislation/regulations and Hydro's best management practices.

- Performs duties of a minor nature related to the above duties that do not affect the rating of the job.

**What you bring**
- Technologist Diploma in Natural Resources or Environmental Studies and three (3) years of relevant work experience.
- Must hold a valid class five (5) driver’s license.

**What else you should know**
- This is a MoveUp Group 9 full-time temporary position (FTT), based out of either our Dunsmuir or Fort St. John locations,

pending the required business approvals and workspace availability.
- This role is for approximately 12 months (with potential of extension).
- Please be advised that this role has been assessed as safety sensitive and pre-qualification alcohol and drug testing will

be required as a pre-condition to employment.
- A condition of employment in this role is that you maintain your Class 5 Driver's License in good standing.
- As part of the selection process, applicants may be required to take a written test/assessment or do a presentation.
- Frequent field trips to conduct planning and inspection at Hydro facilities, projects and construction sites throughout the

province including working alone in remote areas, driving 4x4 trucks on rough access roads, climbing and/or walking around
uneven, steep and/or rough terrain in all weathers; majority of time spent in normal office conditions. May operate boats,
snowmobiles and ATVs during field work.
- The Fort St. John location is eligible for a Remote Incentive of 12%. Remote Incentives are paid bi-weekly to Full-Time

Regular employees working in eligible remote locations.
- Good working knowledge of provincial and federal environmental management legislation and regulations.
- Good research and analytical skills.
- Ability to read and prepare technical reports.
