Environmental Specialist – British Columbia (BC)
located in either the Interior or Northeast BC to join our growing team. We specialize in planning, permitting, strategy development and implementation, and environmental services. We provide senior level expertise to help our clients navigate through the complex maze of environmental regulations and regulatory compliance required for projects across the energy sector. Our clients are diverse represent several market segments: renewable energy, electrical transmission and distribution, municipal, and oil and gas. Job Description
The ideal candidate will have a combination of work and educational experience in environment, natural resources, wildlife, ecology, or similar sectors. In this position, you will be involved in the development, implementation, and monitoring of environmental assessments and permitting, while also actively participating in biophysical field programs (assumed approximately 50% in field). It is expected that the successful candidate will assist in an interdisciplinary role where they will have both field ecology/biology responsibilities and other ongoing responsibilities (e.g., report writing, permit development, and proposal strategy and development). We are looking for someone with a collaborative approach who can work with a diverse range of clients, has a great attitude, and a willingness to grow as a professional. This role requires open-minded Environmental Specialists in the Interior and Northeast BC regions who are open to teleworking or working from our Kelowna, BC office.

Core Qualifications

  • University degree (e.g., B.Sc. or M.Sc.) in an environment focused program such as Environmental Science, Ecology, Biology, or related discipline.
  • 5+ years of related work experience.
  • Field survey experience (e.g., wildlife, vegetation, wetland).
  • Skills in data compilation, technical reporting, and written and oral communication.
  • Understanding of BC environmental regulatory requirements for infrastructure projects
  • Proficient using Microsoft Office suite (e.g., Excel, Word).
  • Strong interpersonal skills, team-oriented, and suited to work as part of a multi-disciplinary team.
  • Open-minded approach to participating in different types of projects, tasks and responsibilities associated with a small- to mid-sized growing business.
  • An unwavering commitment to safety and familiarity with safety requirements in the field and in the office.
  • A Class 5 (or equivalent) driver's licence.
  • Having a professional designation (e.g., R.P.Bio.) is considered an asset.

The preferred candidate will have the following attributes to support our team and our clients:

  • Experience in applying environmental regulations to various projects, with priority given to experience in pipelines, electrical transmission/distribution, and renewable energy.
  • Detail oriented and exceptional organization skills.
  • Willingness to positively collaborate in an interdisciplinary environment.

Core Responsibilities

  • Actively participate in and lead biophysical field programs.
  • Pro-actively contribute/assist/support the development, implementation, evaluation, and monitoring of Maskwa's quality management in relation to environmental deliverables and work performed.
  • Support (or lead) project planning, scheduling, budgeting, and execution.
  • Support business development initiatives and help strengthen client relationships.
  • Contribute/collaborate generally to Maskwa projects and team members.
  • Assist in the preparation and submission of regulatory applications.
  • Technical report writing and peer review of technical reports and deliverables.
  • Deliver in a fast-paced, dynamic working environment.
  • Collaborate with staff across the company and externally in completing deliverables.
  • Complete required corporate operation and administrative activities (time entry, expense submissions, invoicing, reporting, etc.) as required, in a timely manner.
  • Support Maskwa employees in day-to-day business operations.

Compensation Package
Maskwa offers a competitive salary, bonus structure, and benefits that are reflective of skillset and experience. Salary will reflect years of applicable experience; however the annual salary is expected to range between $70,000 and $125,000.

Location
This is a full-time teleworking position based out of the Interior or Northeast BC region. Successful candidates, if preferred, can work out of our Kelowna office. Our head office is in Calgary, Alberta at Avenue SE. With this role, some travel throughout BC and Alberta may be required.
