**WHAT'S THE JOB?**
Reporting to the Regional Director of Operations, Workforce Accommodation Forestry and Energy Services, the Operational Community Engagement Lead is responsible for working alongside our operations team to ensure safe, high-quality operations that engage local communities and provide opportunities for employment and advancement to local workers. This position is responsible for supporting relationships internally and externally through open dialogue, regular communication, project planning and project-level engagement. Working closely with the District/Operations Managers, Camp Managers and field-level teams, this position will be responsible for enhancing Indigenous involvement in existing projects, while supporting the advancement of opportunities for business growth by sustaining effective relationships internally and externally. This role will require travel to various locations throughout northern Ontario up to 50% of the time.
**Duties and Responsibilities**:
The Operational Community Engagement Lead performs some or all of the following duties:
- Promoting and developing a positive health and safety culture and demonstrates visible health, safety and environmental leadership.
- Working with Site Managers to achieve operational goals and meet client expectations.
- Work with the operations teams to develop and implement plans to recruit, train, develop and retain local and indigenous workers at the site level and at the regional level.
- Identify opportunities where the Company and our management teams can reduce or eliminate employment barriers to support workers both individually and as a group.
- Support and provide guidance on efforts to make Horizon North workplaces, policies and communications more culturally sensitive and inclusive.
- Liaise between Horizon North representatives and indigenous communities and provide support to frontline staff on matters dealing with indigenous partners and employees as required.
- Support high quality and safe operations through helping with training, auditing and problem solving at sites.
- Collect information, statistics and stories to support reporting to the Company, clients and indigenous partners.
- Keep records of formal and informal meetings in a format that can be shared and tracked.
- Prepare reports for internal and external shareholders.
- Support Business Development efforts through collaboration, sharing of information, participation in strategizing sessions and attending meetings or presentations.
- Continuously communicate Horizon North’s vision, strategies, programs and services to build awareness.
**Working Conditions**:
- 50% Office Based, 50% Field/Travel Based with a flexible work schedule, potentially requiring work on evenings and weekends.

**Qualifications**:
- Post-secondary education with a preference to Business, Indigenous Studies, Hospitality, Social Work or related field an asset.
- Minimum 5 years of relevant experience in an Operations Manager, Community Relations or similar role.
- Awareness of the history of indigenous peoples in Canada and experience working directly with an Indigenous workforce.
- Experience attending community activities and familiarity with cultural customs and practices of the various indigenous groups in Canada is required.
- Computer literacy, including proficiency in MS Outlook, Word, Excel, PowerPoint and Adobe software.
- Possession of general business acumen and experience in the natural resource development, land development or service sectors is an asset.
- Valid driver’s license and recent driver’s abstract will be required prior to position commencement.
