MacEwan University is seeking a Grounds Worker for a full-time 12-month replacement term opportunity with our Landscaping and Grounds department.

Your role as a Grounds Worker is responsible for maintaining safe and attractive environment for area at all campuses. You must be able to provide twenty-four-hour response to winter weather conditions and perform your duties by adhering to all safety regulations and safe work practices.

Key responsibilities include:

- Maintaining campus grounds by picking up litter and garbage, mowing grass, pruning, transplanting, and propagating trees and shrubs, weeding flower beds, handling landscaping renovations, operating irrigation systems, and performing repairs on mobile equipment;
- Conducting maintenance on equipment used in the trade, including tasks such as cleaning, lubricating, changing fluids, tuning up, making adjustments, sharpening blades, performing preventive maintenance and troubleshooting;
- Performing spring cleanup duties, which involve sweeping parking lots, sidewalks, and roadways, as well as pressure washing hard landscape structures like bus shelters, stone walls, and planters; and
- Providing general upkeep and minor repairs to asphalt and concrete surfaces.

**SKILLS**:
You will have:

- Experience using landscaping equipment: tractors, loaders, lawnmowers, trucks, woodchippers, road sweepers and hand power tools;
- The knowledge to safely work with chemicals;
- The ability to work in all types of weather;
- Excellent mechanical aptitude;
- Effective communication skills; and
- Good physical health.

**QUALIFICATIONS**:

- A minimum of a Grade 12 diploma.
- A minimum of one year landscape maintenance or relevant educational background.
- Possess a valid Alberta Class 5 Driver's License.

**POSITION REQUIREMENTS**:

- The nature of this position requires the ability to have flexible work hours.
- Must have knowledge of WHMIS and OH&S Regulations.
